Marian's laugh was too bright and there was the edge of real panic behind it that she was trying to keep tamped down. What was she doing? What was her play here? Did she have a play? All she'd been able to think was that the sheriff needed to not be left alone with Tuck's people.
"Oh yes," Marian said, looking up her her enemy with a sweet smile. "He's very good at what he does. What a treasure you are." God she hoped Tuck was contacting the others. Although... if they showed up would this turn into some sort of bloodbath? Marian didn't want any of these innocent people caught in the crossfire, and maybe she could diffuse this.
Was it her worst trait, always thinking she had some power to settle this violently unstable men, or was it only her second worst?
