David had spent most of his time by Aderyn's side, since he was the only one allowed in there at the moment. The last two days, watching her body burn with fever, the soft beeping of the monitors a constant background noise, had been both intense and slow, the hours dragging out as everyone anxiously awaited a change. Finally, around 4am, her fever had broken, and a relieved doctor had told David that he thought she might finally pull through- that frankly, it was a miracle.
Funny, that.
A few times, David had been down to see Iestyn, who sometimes was sleeping, sometimes awake, and every time he went down, his son begged to be allowed to join Addy. It broke David's heart that they had to be kept apart until Addy stabilised. He pitied that look of desperation on Iestyn's face.
When he felt the twitch on his hand, he woke from a light doze, lifting his head to look around at his daughter. When he saw her eyes were open, he broke into a relieved smile.
"Annwyl. You're awake," David said softly, sitting up and leaning towards her. He was sure she would be confused about where she was. "You're in hospital. We got you both out. You're safe now."
