Luna shook her head. βThis is Hecateβs place,β she promised him, opening the gate. βShe said I could come here whenever I liked.β
She pushed through the gate into the backyard and across to the dark doorway. βIn here,β she said, unlocking the door with a key from her pocket. Once inside there was the almost complete silence and the light from outside barely came in.
βStay standing right here,β she told Will, moving away from him to the far wall and using that to guide her. She needed to stay on the side, but she remembered where the lights were at the other end of the room. Against the tile floor, each click of her heels was magnified in the shadows.
Luna found the lightbox and opened it, the small glow there showing her which buttons to press. She flicked them and the room began to glow, revealing the pool that filled the centre of it. The roof was lit with lights that looked like stars, painting into a blue-black field of constellations. It was bright enough to give the whole room a soft romantic look.
βTa da,β she said, looking at him from across the length of the pool. βStars.β
