Sometimes Urania thought, when in the view of something like this comet, that she could understand something of the small scale humans lived on. The last time this comet had been so close to earth, there was not even an Ancient Greece- writing was still to be invented, and agriculture was only just spreading through Europe.
The next time this comet returned what would it see when it looked down upon this small earth below? Cities in the clouds or a vast wasteland of nothing?
Six thousand years was a long time even to a god.
For a long time Urania was quiet and focused, now and then pulling out her phone to record observations- all spoken so she didn't have to take her eyes off the view in front of her.
Then, eventually, she turned to look at Merlin. Her eyes had adjusted well to the dark by now and she could make him out.
She stood and, from her pocket, Urania drew out a large handful of little LED tealight candles and set them on the rug, turning them on. Their glow was small and weak, but enough to make them both visible as she sat back down and reached for her wine.
"Thank you," she told him. "For clearing the sky."
