"Fine." Stutely let out an exasperated sigh of his own. There was more he felt like saying – there was definitely more he wanted to know about this harebrained assassination; like, what exactly had they done with the body? – but he'd made his point and there was no point hammering it in further, not with the blood pounding in Scarlet's ears and Tuck's death still a raw wound.
In a way – and you wouldn't catch him dead saying this to Scarlet – the Sheriff's death had given them a small window to breathe. It would come at a cost, he knew, but it was time they could use to regroup, to lick their wounds and to plan. Had to make sure they didn't squander it.
"He's gonna be bleeding furious when he comes back, you know," he said after a moment. No accusation in his voice this time, just stating a simple fact. "Still. Got some time to get ourselves ready for him."
