"I'm not sad," Will said quickly, putting his hand over hers and gently taking it away from his face. "Disappointed, yeah. Your friendship is good for me, you help me sort things out in my head sometimes when I can't think things straight. I need that. And I like you too much to want to lose you." He sighed, managed to rustle up a more genuine, but smaller, smile, and let go of her hand.
