"That sounds lovely. What did you grow?" David asked. He left Bryn on the chair and lead Aderyn towards the stairs leading up to the roof. The upper door was locked, and he pulled out the key and let them both up onto the roof.
The greenhouse stood in the middle of the flat roof. The side of it faced north so it caught the sun all day. There were hardier plants spilling outside, and empty ceramic plant pots stacked outside the door. Inside, it was wide enough for two aisles, and shelves along both walls so there was not an inch of wasted space. Strung lights hung across the roof, criss-crossing back and forth along the length of the room. Seedling planters stood in the centre, from established plants to new growths further back. Deeper planters on the sides housed vegetables and flowers, co-planting to provide natural nutrient boosts and discourage pests. A small water fountain of stacked bamboo provided a calming trickling sound. There was a wicker chair in the far corner, painted green with a side table where a book and an empty mug were still sitting, surrounded by hanging ferns and individual pots of varying sizes. It was a verdant oasis, and it almost seemed to brighten in there as he walked in. There was also a small prrrt as he showed Aderyn in, and a pair of ears and round yellow eyes poked up from the middle of the pots.
"Ahh, there she is. Enjoying the sun are you dear?" David said cheerfully. "Someone has to keep the rats and mice out of the seeds, and what a good job you do."
