A lead weight had settled in Thomas' stomach from the moment his mother had called. His father had been dying for years now, but this was the true end. The final moments. And if they wanted to be with William when he drew his last breath, now was the time.

Thomas left his wife to get their car ready, and he headed to Jamie's new place, only two houses away thanks to a very thoughtful Phantasos. The door was answered by a sleepy-looking Jayden, who offered Thomas a bright smile before recognising the stormy look on Thomas' face.

"Hi, Thomas! Jamie's- Oh god, what's wrong?"

Thomas offered Jayden a small smile, because he hardly wanted the young man to worry, but he wasn't going to tell Jayden before he told Jamie. "I need to speak to my son, Jayden."

"Right, okay. Come inside," Jayden shooed him inside. "Sit. I'll go get him," he said, dashing upstairs to Jamie's room. "Jamie! Jamie, your dad's here! He looks real serious!"

Jamie was fast asleep, head smashed into the pillow, as was his way. He stirred slightly at the sound of Jayden calling, but dismissed it as an aspect of his dream.

Or he did, til the sound kept repeating, accompanied by running footsteps. Jamie sat up, still a little asleep, yawning and pushing his hair out of his face. "Jay, what-" he started to ask, then it finally clicked that Jayden had mentioned his dad. Looking serious.

"Swear to fuck, if someone got kidnapped again, I'm giving Mom back her sniper rifle," he muttered as he pulled on a shirt, all but tumbling down the stairs to the front door. He caught a glimpse of his dad's face, and his heart sank. "What happened?"

Thomas reached out for Jamie's arm so he could pull him towards a sofa. This was the kind of conversation that should be had sitting down.

"Hey, Kiddo. It's grandpa. We- If we want to say goodbye to him, we need to go in to the hospice now." Thomas' heart shattered just a little, and he very much did not want to see the look of pain on his son's face at the knowledge that William was dying. He couldn't look away either.

Even as Jamie's heart sank at the news, he couldn't help but feel a tiny bit relieved. At least no one was missing, kidnapped, or cursed. William's impending death was extremely sad, yes, but they knew it was coming. He'd almost been waiting for the call, at this point.

"Right," he said softly. "Right, OK, I should...I should probably get dressed. Right? I have to say goodbye, even if he doesn't recognize me. I owe him that much."

	Thomas' heart swelled with love for Jamie, and he nodded. "We have a little time, Jamie. Get dressed and grab something to eat. I'll make you some coffee." "I'll get a to-go cup ready," said Jayden, who was clearly eavesdropping. "Sorry, I- I was too scared not to listen." "Jayden, it's alright," Thomas said warmly. (Reply to this) (Parent)
