David rubbed his face, trying to guess at exactly what they meant. Bridget had told them the truth before she died? Or had she explained the reason they left, which only really made sense in the context of his existence?
"She said she wished things had been different," Iestyn added, watching David's face. It was so odd seeing the man who had been absent their whole lives, especially when he looked exactly the same as the old photo they'd had as kids, down to the haircut.
"So do I," David replied softly. "The reason she took you to Wales- it's not your fault. I didn't want you to go, but it was partly my fault she had to take you. She must have been in a lot of pain, towards the end. I would have come, if I'd known." He clasped his hands together. "I exist in... fairly unique circumstances..." He wasn't sure how much to say, how much he should say.
