Who: JJ van der Berg, Victor Brannigan, Jesse Delacroix and Nicholas Rowland
What: Cuddles
When: Backdated to Victor's release from hospital
Where: Haus of Sausage
Warnings/Notes: Memories of torture
JJ had been released from hospital much sooner than Victor, for obvious reasons. The injuries Victor had sustained were terrible and numerous. In addition, his lungs had taken on water while being waterboarded, and he developed a nasty case of pneumonia. JJ had refused to leave the hospital until the doctors made her, and even then she was there every minute they allowed her to be, holding vigil over the man who had kept her safe from the whims of demons. The thought that if he had survived the Antichrist's torture, but died of pneumonia then she was going to curse the entire damn world.
Eventually, however, Victor had rallied. After spending nearly an entire week asleep while the doctor's flooded his system with anti-biotics, Victor's lungs had started to clear. Eventually the hospital agreed to discharge Victor as long as he was in the care of a private nurse.
He had moved into a ground-floor guest room, set up with a huge hospital bed Nicholas had purchased out of nowhere. Victor didn't even question it, he just gratefully fell into the bed and asleep.
When Victor awoke, JJ was reclined in the bed beside him, quietly reading. "H...hello?" Victor said, rubbing at his eyes tiredly. She smiled warmly at him, lowering the book.
"You're awake. Kat is arranging the movers at your old house and Deirdre is with her," she explained, in case he was wondering where the hell his partner was. Victor and Kat had made the decision together to sell their house and move on. Victor had been taken from home, and Deirdre had witnessed it. They didn't want her to live in a place with those memories, let alone Victor. The quick decision meant that they didn't have anywhere to move to yet, but since they were staying here, they had a storage facility rented for their things, and time to figure it out.
"Oh right," he mumbled. He had forgotten entirely that the movers were coming today. Details slipped out of his mind easily these days. "And you're watching over me?"
"It's not just for your benefit," JJ informed him, sliding down in the bed. Then she wrapped her arms around one of his and rested her head gently on his shoulder just in case it hurt him. Victor didn't protest the closeness at all, in stead scooting closer to her and planting a kiss on her hair.
"I know," he acknowledged, his voice quiet. He didn't say much these days. In fact Victor was nearly unrecognisable as the man he had used to be save for his affection and care for others. He was clearly traumatised, and who could blame him? But he never raised his voice or had a harsh word for anyone.
"And I know that Kat is going to want to sleep in here with you and I actually don't want to let her," JJ said, though at least she sounded amused at herself. There was nothing romantic or jealous behind it, she just felt like what they had been through had glued them together and being away from him made her feel panicky and horrid.
"Can I admit something?" he asked, looking slightly hangdog. "I love Kat and I don't want to be with anyone else, but I- I am kind of struggling with the idea of having her in here instead of you too. I know I'll get over it, probably quite quickly now- But it's still there."
"Least we're both crazy," she said, her voice warm and fond. "You hungry?" While the difference in Victor's body mass wasn't quite as apparent as it had been with Nicholas after their respective ordeals with the Antichrist, he had still lost a great deal of weight. And considering Joshua had made him choose which one of them would eat, and Victor nearly always chose the very pregnant JJ, it was no wonder. JJ had spent nearly every moment he was awake since their rescue, trying to feed him. And Victor clearly was pleased with the turn of events.
"I am," he acknowledged, "pretty much always now. But I- I sort of don't want you to leave? I uhm...I'd rather be hungry than alone?"
"Those...aren't the only choices, you idiot," JJ laughed, patting his belly. Then, from her position there still cuddled up to his side, she called out at the top of her lungs, "JESSE! NICHOLAS! COME HERE PLEASE!"
"Oh my god, ow!" Victor looked over at her, impressed by her lung power.
