Helen felt rather offended that Ariana's mother had decided to waltz back into Ariana's and Menelaus' lives when she had been absent for so long. Helen didn't know the full story, but it made her blood boil. Helen had left once because she had been put under a spell and would have otherwise gone quite unwillingly. She would have gone kicking and screaming had she been in her right mind. This woman had left of her own freewill and was obviously trying to ruin Menelaus.
She glanced at one of the sentences. "Unfit father... What the hell?" She let out a low, guttural sound. Helen felt a strong need to protect both Menelaus and Ariana. Maybe they weren't hers to protect, gods knew she had given up that right with Menelaus years before, but she cared about them and she knew how much they loved each other. This was wrong.
She looked up when she heard a knock at the door. She peered through the little peephole to see the delivery boy standing there. Helen opened the door and, despite Menelaus suggesting no tip, Helen was gracious enough to give him a twenty of her own. She offered a friendly smile before the man was on his way to his next delivery. She set the bags on the kitchen table and leaned against the counter, frowning. She didn't like the way it made her feel so powerless. She had to do something.
