It had been so long since Thessalonike had attended a dinner such as this. She was sure she should have brought some grand gift to present to Alexander, because that was the custom in their original days. But even if she had found something worthy of her brothers home, she wasn't certain it would be truly worthy. She settled on a bottle of French wine. Even if they didn't drink it, she at least brought something.
Then there was the matter of attire. Should she dress formally? Casually? Not too casually! This wasn't a diplomatic dinner, nor a ball, nothing fancy as far as she was aware, but she still wanted to dress nicely. She was much more nervous about this than she ought to be, because this was her brother and his friends and she knew Hephaestion so what was there to be nervous about? She huffed at herself with annoyance because she knew she should be perfectly comfortable with this meeting. She set off, eventually coming to her brothers home. She rang the bell to be let up, realizing now that her nerves had subsided and she smiled slightly. This would be a good night.
