Alex nodded slowly, and finally smiled, because he was willing to take Hephaestion at his word. If he couldn't trust him, he couldn't trust anyone.
"Yeah, of course," he said, leading the way into the living room. "Sorry. Do you want some wine, or anything?"
Since he definitely did, he went on into the kitchen and uncorked a bottle. "As for me, I've been working as a strategist for the Army, down in DC until a couple years ago when I got transferred to Fort Hood. I can't go off any fight anymore, I always get pulled back at the worst time. So now I make sure they have all the intelligence and the best plan I can devise."
