It was funny, the more the needle did its work the more numb she felt inside. Physically, her back was feeling raw and numb. Mentally, she felt somewhat better. She didn't vocalize or make any indication that she was in pain at all. She just sat there and let him move her as he needed to as he worked. This was her way of expressing herself without having to actually say anything. Without having to be upfront with Jared about how screwed she felt.

"She seemed mean," she said, a hint of judgment in her tone. She liked her boss, even if it was mainly because he didn't try chatting with her. But here she was trying to make conversation. She was really just trying to figure out what the hell they had been talking about.
