"I could do with another drink, I'm parched," he told her. "She might carry on for a while, she does love to play to the crowd."
"I heard that," Jenny said cheerfully. "But yeah, you two go on. I'm so jazzed up I could probably do this for another hour at least." She turned back to the crowd. "Let's have another round for these guys, huh folks?" And the crowd obliged by clapping and stomping their feet.
"So if y'all don't mind, I've got some more songs up my sleeve I think you'll like," she continued, arranging herself on her stool. "I wanted to ask Johnny if he'd do Whiskey Lullaby with me before he left, but a: he's an old man and needs to rest." The crowd laughed and whistled. "And b: no one needs to see me ugly crying all over the place, which I always do when I sing that song. And it's really, really sad, which I don't think y'all need to hear tonight."
She picked out the opening notes of Baggage Claim, and the crowd started clapping rhythmically along.
"See?" Johnny said, as they descended from the stage. "She'll be fine."
