"I'm a freaking genius," Roxanna declared. Then she pushed herself halfway up off the floor. "Jamie, help me up, I have to pee. And you'll probably have to help me down the hall."
Jamie's forehead creased, because it usually took a lot more drinking for Roxanna to reach the point where she needed help to get around; her tolerance was pretty high.
Sure enough, as soon as they were outside and out of earshot, she was suddenly looking much less drunk. "You OK, Jamie?" she asked quietly, peering at him concernedly.
Jamie just shrugged and sighed. "I'm drunk," he said, giving her a strained smile. "So I'm better than an hour or so ago."
"Don't bullshit me," she sighed. "You've been acting weird for weeks, and you've never acted like that around Jayden. Don't do this to yourself, sweetie. You're still engaged and he's not single anymore. Going down that road will just lead to misery."
"Is it still an engagement if your fiance is impersonating the invisible man?" Jamie asked bitterly, twisting his ring around his finger.
"You know the answer to that," she said, squeezing his hand before she slipped into the bathroom. Jamie slid down the wall onto the floor to wait for her, looking up at her when she came out again. "This fucking sucks," he said in a small, broken voice.
"Come on," she said kindly, helping him back to his feet. "More drinks, more food, we'll plot our awesome folk band. Tomorrow we'll talk again, and you can try and call Theseus again. Maybe it'll help."
"Maybe," Jamie allowed, following her back into Jayden's room.
"We're back!" Roxanna trilled, sinking down onto the floor again.
