Morphine gave him an innocent look, "Do I look like a mean person?" If only he knew. She shushed him gently, "Calm down," she said firmly. "I do this all the time." She averted the question of who she was. "I'm giving you two milligrams of morphine," she said before sticking the needle into his vein on the first attempt. She pushed the fluid slowly before withdrawing the needle and recapped it. "You should start to feel better in a few minutes," she said pleasantly. It was amazing how calm she remained while the city fell into disarray around them.
