Jayden chuckled at David as well, breaking him out of his guilt at gobbling the food. Katherine didn't seem to mind anyway, which made him feel better. He continued to eat, though at a much more civilised pace.
"I love cake," Jayden added with a small smile. "I didn't used to get cake on my birthdays. Or at all."
Sometimes Jayden did that. He let little tidbits of his seriously abusive past slip out, and he said them so bluntly that people were taken aback by them on occasion. He forgot some people grew up in loving situations where they didn't want for anything. His childhood hadn't been like that.
