Who: Hestia and Hermes
What: I didn't know I could still do that...
When: Thursday night
Where: Hestia's home/B&B
Warnings: Violence, attempted rape
It was rather uncommon for Hestia not to have any guests checked in. True, she didn't mind the personal time, but it still made the house seem too quiet and empty, and far too big for just her. But she did her best to keep her spirits up, tending the fire in the hearth, and fixing a nice dinner for herself.
After watching an old movie on TV, she was starting to get tired, and decided to head to bed. She made the rounds of the house, checking that the doors and windows were locked, and shutting off the lights after her. Later, she'd regret not double-checking the living room window. It had never shut and locked properly since being replaced, and Hestia had leaned on Hermes' magic to make up for it. But tonight, it wasn't there.
She made her way upstairs, changing into her pajamas and going through her nightly routine. She didn't hear the slight creak of the window swinging open. She didn't hear the light footsteps on the stairs. The first thing she heard was her bedroom door opening, and suddenly she was both pissed and afraid. Someone had broken into her home! Her sanctuary, her place away from the world, it had been violated, and she wasn't going to stand for it.
She was reaching for the bat she kept under her bed, but she must have moved it further away when she was cleaning, because she couldn't feel it. And then he was on top of her. Hestia screamed, but he clamped his hand over her mouth quickly, cutting her off mid-sound. He fumbled with the drawstring of her pajama pants, and a rage that Hestia had never experienced started to well up inside her. Breaking into her home was bad enough, but now he was trying to violate her sacred purity. No. Never. Not while she still drew breath.
Hestia might not have been as fortunate as some of her kin, in terms of modern worship and belief, but she still did have a piece to call her own, and it was on this belief that she now drew power.
"Daughter of Kronos, venerable dame, who dwellest amidst great fire's eternal flame..."
"You have gained an everlasting abode and highest honour: glorious is your portion and your right..."
"In thee the Gods have fixed their dwelling place, strong, stable basis of the mortal race..."
"Hail, Daughter of Kronos..."
"Hestia, in the high dwellings of all..."
She was suddenly lit from within, the dull red-orange of a blazing fire. It started at her core, spreading out and down her arms, and manifested itself in the palms of her hands. Fire, her blazing, sacred fire that she had always tended faithfully, had appeared in her greatest hour of need. Without thinking, she threw the flames at her would-be assailant, who screamed in fear and pain and leaped off of her.
Hestia fell out of bed, landing hard on the floor, and finally spotted the bat she'd been searching for moments early. She slid halfway under her bed on her stomach, her fingers finally closing around the handle. Withdrawing from under the bed, she rose up on her knees and made her way over to the intruder, who was still wailing and trying to put himself out. She cracked him over the head with the bat before she could think about it, and he stopped moving. At this point, she couldn't bring herself to care if he was alive her dead.
She spotted her purse on the floor, the contents spilled everywhere. They must have knocked it off the nightstand during the struggle. She grabbed her phone, and called the only person she wanted to see right now.
"Hermes, please, please come. I need you."
