Who: Jesse, Adrian, Isaiah, Jayden, Ceridwen (+ Nicholas & JJ?)
What: What the fuck was that?!
When: A couple hours after this
Where: Ceridwen's house
Warnings TBD

Jesse had twelve stitches in his face, and bruises and cut scattered all over his body. Isaiah was banged up too, though not as badly. Once the four of them were discharged from the ER, Jesse piled them all back into the SUV, where he collapsed into the passenger seat. He glanced over at Isaiah, who'd gotten behind the wheel again. "You sure you're good to drive?" he asked.

Isaiah waved one hand in a 'more or less' gesture. "You're sure as hell not, and I got us here in one piece. I'll get us wherever we're going. As long as we don't get pulled over, my license is expired."

Jesse snorted. "We'll deal with that later. Right now, I want to make sure everyone else is alright."

Jayden had stitches in his face too, though only five. He was less injured than Jesse, but he felt drugged and out of it anyway. Somewhere in the midst of the panic and furor that was the ER, JJ and Nicholas had joined them, and were now going to follow the brothers wherever they ended up. JJ had suggested her brother's house, but Nicholas had mentioned there was a baby there and if Richard showed up again-

Jayden didn't really care where they went, as long as Richard wasn't there. He leaned his head against the window, his forehead feeling feverish.

Adrian gave his little brother a worried look and then he turned to Isaiah and Jesse. "Maybe we should go see Mo-Ceridwen? We should warn her at the very least. You okay with that, Jay?" Jayden just murmured an affirmative.

Isaia looked over at Jesse for his reaction, and Jesse nodded. "Yeah, that's fine," he said around a yawn. "It'd suck to go into that blind." He pulled out his phone to text Nicholas where they were going, and settled in for the ride to Ceridwen's house.

Ceridwen, meanwhile, was not having a great day. Her children had appeared to her, and while they weren't offering her violence, neither were they letting her have any peace. So when the Delacroix's SUV pulled up outside, she ran outside and slammed the door behind her, trying to catch her breath and figure out what was going on.

Adrian saw Ceridwen run outside the moment they pulled up. Being the least injured of the boys, he jumped out of the SUV the moment it stopped, and ran towards her. "Whoa, Mom, are you okay?!" He asked, worriedly. He reached out to pull her into a hug. "Is it Richard? Did he hurt you?" Oh god, what if he hurt her again like he had right before she left them all?

Ceridwen crushed Adrian to her chest, trembling slightly. "What? No, I haven't seen him, my...my children have appeared. My children from long ago," she clarified. "They just...they give me no peace, they follow me around and ask why I didn't do more to ensure their names live on. They ask why am I so special, they..."

She trailed off as she took in the injured state of her sons, and her forehead creased in concern. "Never mind me, what happened to all of you? Did Richard hurt you? It wouldn't surprise me that he'd haunt all of you during this insanity."

For a split second, Adrian was intensely distracted by the thought that he had siblings he had never even thought to know about. When Cerdiwen looked over his brothers though, he pushed that out of his mind. His family here was what mattered.

"He did," Adrian nodded, releasing his hold on their mother because Jayden looked pale and unsteady. He went to support his younger brother, who leaned against him heavily.

JJ and Nicholas pulled up, piling out of the car as well. "Any idea of where to now?" JJ asked carefully.

"Well there's my old apartment," Nicholas suggested. JJ, Jesse and Jayden had lived there with him for awhile before moving when they were threatened. "Hannah lives there now, but she's in NOLA so it's sitting empty. I have a key-"

"Would she mind?" Adrian asked carefully.

"I mean...no, and it's my apartment," Nicholas shrugged.

"That, and the first floor of our house is trashed," Jesse added. "I'm just all in favor of going somewhere where there aren't any fucking ghosts."

Ceridwen had been going over to each of her sons, checking over each of them, as if to reassure herself that they were all at least in one piece. "Would you mind terribly if I went with you?" she asked Nicholas. "At least until the ghosts have gone."

"Can she, please?" Isaiah added.

"I had already assumed you would," Nicholas nodded, smiling slightly at her. "It's not that far either. I'll order us all some food on the way too, I think we could do with a feed."

When Ceridwen got to him, Jayden shied away from her a little. He squeezed his eyes shut and stood there, leaning against Adrian. "He's okay," Adrian whispered to their mother, reassuringly. "He'll be okay."

Ceridwen nodded and managed a small smile of her own for Nicholas. "That sounds good to me," she said softly.

She withdrew her hand from near Jayden's face, looking concerned, hurt, and guilty all at once. She couldn't blame Jayden for shying away, but that didn't mean it didn't sting a little. So she settled for squeezing Adrian's shoulder instead and said, "I hope so."

Aidan took his mother's hand and led her to the SUV so they could all pile back in again. He continued to hold it the entire way to Nicholas' apartment, and he didn't even care that maybe that was a little ridiculous.

Nicholas led the way into the underground car park and then he led the entire troop into the elevator and up to the penthouse apartment that he now let his best friend live in rent free. It had four bedrooms and she only took up one, so there would have been plenty of space even if she hadn't been visiting her family across the country at the moment.

"Foods on it's way," he announced, helping JJ into a chair in the living room. "I'm going to make some tea, be right back." He slipped into the kitchen, but still kept an eye on his people while he fussed about.

"No ghosts," Jayden whispered, gratefully.

Ceridwen squeezed his hand and followed him back into the car. She remained silent for the ride over, but she kept looking at each of them in turn; a worried mother looking out for her loved ones.

Jesse sank into a chair next to JJ, squeezing her hand. "I'm glad you're OK, cher," he told her.

"Yeah, and thank fuck for that," Isaiah agreed. "I've had more than enough of ghosts to last me a life time."

"You and me both," Ceridwen said.

JJ looked Jesse over worriedly, squeezing his hand more tightly than she meant to. "Don't you-" She stopped and shook her head, clamping her mouth shut. She wanted to yell at him for practically egging the spirit on, trying to pull Richard's attentions away from his brothers onto him. She wanted to beat his chest and remind him he was going to be a father, but none of his was his fault. That protective streak in him was one of her favourite things anyway. "I wish you hadn't been hurt," she settled on, quietly that she hoped was just for him.

Jayden hovered in the doorway of what had once been his room before sort of slowly edging towards Ceridwen in a way he hoped wasn't conspicuous.

Jesse only winced slightly as her grip tightened, but he smiled softly at her. "I had to get you out, and then I had to look out for them," he said, sighing and rubbing at his eyes with his free hand. "I wish I hadn't been either, but I wouldn't change anything."

Ceridwen had been watching all of her sons from her chair near the kitchen, so when Jayden moved, she looked up and smiled at him briefly, before tipping her head back and closing her eyes for a few moments.

JJ clamped down on her tongue again before she said something she didn't mean. Fuck hormones were shit.

His mother smiling at him was all he needed, really. Sure he had pulled away from her before, but now he was in a space he knew; the first place he had ever really felt safe in his entire life. So he edged over towards her until he full on collapsed on the floor in front of her and buried her face in his knee, where he started crying. His arms wrapped around her legs, tightly, and he refused to let go.

"Oh dear," Adrian said gently, but he didn't move to try to disengage Jayden.

Ceridwen's eyes flew open, and she tried to sit up, but her face softened as she looked down at Jayden. She reached down and ran her fingers through his hair, murmuring soothing words and endearments as she did so. "It's alright, Jayden," she said quietly. "You're safe now."

Jayden felt like he was choking, but there was no way he was letting go now, not now that she was holding him and smoothing his hair and being so amazingly motherly. God, this was all he had wanted his entire life, and so he cried all that pain out, right there in her lap while his brothers watched. "I love you," he managed to murmur between sobs. "I love you, please don't go again, please."

Ceridwen slipped out of the chair and knelt beside Jayden, wrapping her arms around him. "I love you too, Jayden," she said. "And I'm not going anywhere, I promise. Not even the shades of the dead can keep me away." She tightened her arms around him, running one hand over his back. She knew he had a lot of lost time to make up for, and she'd never gotten to do this for her boys when they were younger. And now that she could, she was never going to leave them again.

Jayden curled up in her arms, and his crying calmed. He sure as hell wasn't moving though, so he settled in against her.

From over his shoulder, Adrian gave his mother a wide smile. He knew Jayden's reticence to be close to her had hurt her deeply and this was such a great step, even after all the pain that had brought it to this point.

When the door buzzed, he hopped up and buzzed the deliveryman in, ambling to the kitchen then to get plates and anything else they would need, with the direction of Nicholas. Nicholas' kitchen was huge, and Adrian had no idea where anything was.

JJ leaned against Jesse and she kissed his shoulder. "Love you," she muttered. "I'm starving. I want to eat three helpings. Three helpings for three people."

Ceridwen started humming a lullaby that she'd sang to her sons when they were young and wouldn't sleep. It brought back memories of holding an infant Jayden in her arms, and that, along with the moment she'd shared with Jayden, made her smile at Adrian in return. The whole scene made Isaiah smile, and he got up to see if Adrian needed any help in the kitchen.

Jesse smiled, pressing a kiss to the back of her hand. "Love you too, JJ," he said. "We'll get you some food, and then you can sleep, if you want."

Adrian handed Isaiah a handful of silverware, but mostly it was an excuse to look his younger brother over again. "You okay? I got off easy there, so now I'm going to be fussing about the three of you."

Jayden finally lifted his head, not caring that his eyes were puffy and red. He smiled widely at his mother and whispered, "thanks, Mom."

JJ curled up into Jesse's side, though she was careful not to hurt him further. "Maybe. I don't know if I'll ever sleep again. It was so awful."

Isaiah nodded. "I got a little banged up, but it could've been worse. I'll probably be stiff for a few days, but they gave me some painkillers at the hospital. I'll be OK."

Ceridwen wiped away a few stray tears, and smoothed his hair back as she said, "Of course, dear heart."

"Yeah, I know that feeling," Jesse sighed, curling one arm around here. "And yeah, it really was awful. But at least we all survived, more or less intact, and I'm grateful for that."

Nicholas, Adrian and Isaiah carried everything in and stowed it on the coffee table. "Eat," Nicholas directed, especially eyeing Jayden.

"Yes, sir," Jayden half-whispered, but then he smirked a little bit to show he was joking. He finally released his grip on his mother's legs so he could inch closer to the table to grab some food. Nicholas returned with tea as well, and Jayden fixed himself some of that too. "Thank you."

"Course," Nicholas said, sitting beside JJ and Jesse. "Shit, that was unreal."

"I'm sorry about your stuff," Adrian winced.

"Oh I don't care about that," Nicholas waved his hands around. "It's just things. Also I'm rich." JJ snorted at that, and covered her mouth. "My point there," he said, eyeing her, but his expression was fond, "is that it's easy for me to say it's just things because I can replace them easily. But even if I couldn't I'd rather it was things than all of you."

Ceridwen rose up onto her knees and walked over to the coffee table, fixing a cup of tea for herself before settling back to let everyone else dish up some food first.

"So Richard just appeared in your home and started tormenting you?" she asked softly. "And from the sounds of it, smashing up your house."

"Yeah," Jesse said darkly. "He was more like a poltergeist than a regular ghost, he blew out the lights, tossed stuff around, and scrambled us in the process."

"Yeah, and Jesse decided to basically wave a red flag at him," Isaiah muttered. Jesse just looked at him. "I still maintain, better me than you three."

"Your martyr complex called, it's overblown," Isaiah retorted, before collecting his meal and disappearing into one of the bedrooms.

Jesse started to get up after him, but Ceridwen raised a hand, and he stopped. "Let him go, ti kras lonbraj mwen," she said. "He's scared, and he just watched his older brother get beat to hell and back by the ghost of the man all of you hate. We all process things differently."

Adrian felt the same as Isaiah, but he stuck around in the living room. He didn't want his older brother to feel like shit on top of everything else. "JJ and Nicholas fled when he started tossing stuff around. He threw an x-box at my ribs, but nothing's broken and that was the worst I got. None of the glass hit me."

"You waved a red flag?" Nicholas said, incredulous.

"He was protecting us," Jayden spoke up, because he didn't want Nicholas yelling at Jesse either. "We were afraid he would come after you," he said to Ceridwen. "Did...did he really hurt you when I was a baby?"

"JJ had to, for the baby's sake," Jesse added. "And I, of course, happened to be standing near the windows when they shattered. That's how my face got cut up."

Ceridwen sighed. running her hand through Jayden's hair again. "He started to notice I didn't age," she admitted. "I looked nearly the same as I did when we met, and it made him suspicious. And I wouldn't tell him anything, so he beat me until I finally told him the truth. I couldn't walk for two days, and as soon as I could, I had to leave the house. Or else he'd tell the world my secret, and they'd lock me away from you forever."

Ceridwen squeezed his hand. "Thank you, sweetheart," she said. "And you're right, he shouldn't have. Truth be told, I think he was pleased to find such a 'good excuse' to get rid of me. Easier to justify in his own mind."

Isaiah had finished his food, and he'd calmed down enough to return to the living room. "Sorry," he said, going over to Jesse. "I shouldn't have blown up like that."

"It's OK," Jesse said, squeezing his hand. "I can't really blame you for that."
