Who: Theseus and Nike
What: New Years Eve Date
When: Backdated New Year's Eve
Where: New York City, fencing school
Warnings: Nike and Theseus being adorable awkward babies

Nike hadn't been lying when she said she wasn't wearing a dress for New Years. It was just too damn cold for that, and dresses were kind of stupid to her anyway. She'd wear one when she wanted to feel girly again. Instead, she had gone with casual and comfortable. It was slightly dressier than usual, but not so much that she felt uncomfortable. She stored all her personal items in her purse and checked herself in the hall mirror one last time when she heard a knock at the door. "Hey," she said when she opened the door, offering a pleasant smile. This whole him being at her door thing had gotten less and less weird over the last several months. She pulled the door closed behind her and grabbed his hand, ready to start their night out on the town, doing whatever it s he had planned.

Theseus also kept it casual. They were both more comfortable in unstructured clothes. Theseus knew without a doubt he hated ties and fancy dress shoes. He took her hand, a kiss on the cheek to follow (whether she wanted it or not) as they walked down town. After a few blocks he stopped. "It may be a bit presumptuous, but my daughter was insistent on getting me into the holiday spirit. So, with that in mind," he pulled out a little wrapped box. It was in shiny red and green paper with a bow. The store had done the wrapping which was good because Theseus would have just walked out the door with a plain box and nothing on it.

It didn't even phase Nike when he kissed her cheek. Normally, she would have backed away and questioned his sanity. Something was different nowadays, though. She had gotten used to him being around. As they walked hand in hand down the cold, busy streets of New York she grew more and more certain she had made the right decision not wearing a dress tonight. When he stopped and handed her the present she looked surprised, "Oh." She took the little box, looking somewhat amused but embarrassed at the same time. "I didn't even get you anything. I'm not much of a gift giver, unless I need to kiss Zeus' ass," she joked. She opened the box and found the necklace inside. She pulled it out, admiring it, "I love it. Thank you." She kissed his cheek. It wasn't too fancy and represented Nike's nature almost perfectly.

"I know you're not a girly kind of woman, but I saw that and thought it would be a nice addition." He was obviously already in over his head with her and it was nice to feel that again. "You don't have to get me anything, but maybe I can finally stay over." He hinted with his brows and a sly smile.

___________________

Nike grinned, "it's very nice. Help me put it on?" She handed him he necklace. As she turned around she pulled her hair up off her neck. "We'll see about that," she said when he suggested he stay over.
___________________

He was very delicate whe placing it around her neck. Nike wasn't a delicate girl by any means, but a girl still. He wanted to show off a little bit. "I did good, huh?" Not that he expected her to give him anything in return. A kiss might suffice....and some time alone. He hadn't been kidding about a night over.

___________________

Nike smirked at how careful he was being. "I'm not a china doll, you know," she teased. After he finished the let her hair fall back and turned to back to him, showing off the newly placed necklace. "Yeah, I think you did just fine." Nike didn't wear a lot of jewelry but this was right up her alley. She took a step toward him to momentarily close the gap between them and kissed him, this time on his lips rather than his cheek. "Thank you," she said afterward and grabbed his hand like before, "Come on."

___________________

Theseus was still a bit stunned after that kiss, so when she pulled him on he paused and took another kiss. "Sorry, couldn't resist that." He grinned like the saucy devil he was and headed to their restaurant. Which ended up being a food truck. "Last time I took out somewhere fancy, this time I thought you might like a more low key dinner."

___________________

That threw Nike off a little, but she quickly recovered. Even if only for a few seconds, she felt herself melt into that kiss. "I'm not complaining," she said, letting him lead the way. When she saw the food truck she couldn't help grinning, "Yeah, I'd say this is more my style." It would be less crowded than one of the restaurants that were throwing New Year's Eve parties.

"I'm learning." Theseus perked a devious brow, handing her a sausage dog from the vendor. This was going to one of the most laid back evenings he'd had away from his daughter, and he was okay with that. The more time he spent with Nike, the more this rogue fell for her. "Figured after dinner you might be up for some fencing..." He took a bite of his own dog and waited for a response.

___________________

"I've noticed," she said with an equally mischievous grin. For the most part, Nike was as easy going as they came. She had her stressful moments, but without Zeus breathing orders down her neck those moments were few and far between. She took a bite from her dog, considering his suggestion. She nodded slowly, "Yeah, I'd be up for that."
___________________

"Good. I want to see how good at swordplay you really are." It wasn't like old days, but at least he could treat her to something most women wouldn't be into. It made dates with her a challenge, and that was good to keep him interested.

___________________

"Challenge accepted," she said with a glint of power in her eyes. Nike could never back down from a challenge. And beating her... whatever the hell Theseus was to her, would be pretty damn satisfying. This was going to be an exciting night.

___________________

"I hope you're done because I could only book a class in about ten minutes." He'd been so moony-eyed over giving her the gift and feeding her that he'd lost track of time. "Time to make a run for it. Aren't you glad I didn't make you wear heels tonight?" He gave her a wink and started to run down the block.

___________________

"Damn," she said, cramming the rest of her dog in her mouth and hurriedly eating. Nike obviously didn't care how she looked stuffing her face in a date. She smirked, "You can't make me do anyth-" was all she got out before he took off. "SHIT." Nike followed, hot on his trail. This reminded her of chasing criminals, which only added to the adrenaline rush.

___________________

"Come on, is the goddess getting slow? Maybe you didn't need the night off?" He teased her as he turned the corner and headed down another block. They were nearly there, but he liked making her work for something. At least a little bit. Running was never just a past time, Theseus had made a record of running from everything. Maybe he wanted her to catch him, so he slowed down.

___________________

That only encouraged Nike. He had a few seconds advantage, but she was just a few feet away. When he turned she followed close behind, gaining speed with every second. Even when he slowed down she didn't. As soon as she was close enough, she jumped forward onto his back. Her arms snaked around his shoulders, "Onward!" This was fun.

___________________

Theseus oofed the moment he felt her spider his back. "It's been a while since I carried cargo, give me a minute." He adjusted so that he didn't fall forward and land them both to the ground. This was a side of Nike he hadn't seen yet, and he was kind of enjoying it. It broke through her stern exterior. He laughed getting them amazingly to the door without dropping her. "Did I make a good horse?" He let her slide down off his back.

___________________

Nike laughed, "What, you can't keep your footing?" It did help that he hadn't fallen face first into the sidewalk. That would have hurt both of them. And would have been incredibly ungraceful. It would have made for some good laughs, though. That she was even doing this showed she was getting more and more used to him, more open. This was how she would have acted around her own siblings. That, of course, might have turned out into a brawl just because they felt like punching things. But Nike didn't want to go around punching Theseus just because she could. This was entirely different. When they got there she let herself back down onto the sidewalk, laughing. "You could work on your take off. You were a little slow," she teased.

___________________

"I'm not as young as I used to be, give me a little slack." Once in her feet, he grabbed her hand before she went inside for another kiss. They were getting comfortable with each other in a lot of ways. Just maybe this would allow her to give him a little more edge ways. At the same time he didn't want to ruin what was happening either. He might scare her off and he definitely didn't want that. "I'm not always too slow." He just looked at her face a minute. Was it a goddess thing or was she just getting more attractive?

___________________

"Now if I did that you might get slower, and then you'd really lose your edge," she teased. But then she was cutoff, yet again, when he kissed her. Going too fast with Nike could only result in one thing: Nike running. She had only ever committed to being an Enforcer, one of Zeus' fabulous four warrior-type gods/goddesses who were at his every beck and call. Without him around she had more time to herself to be just Nike and to actually have fun. It was a nice change of pace. "I know," she said, watching him carefully, wondering why he was looking at her that way. She had a pretty good idea, judging by his words, but she wasn't about to ruin a good thing. "So... ready? We're gonna be late if we don't go in..."

___________________

"After you," he gave her a thin-lipped smile and and opened the door where he followed in. Class had just stared so they had to hussle to put on all the necessary requirements before whipping out the swords. Theseus almost insisted he didn't need any of that extra padding, but their instructor insisted.

___________________

Nike just grinned in return as she strutted passed him into the building. She gave Theseus an annoyed look when the instructor insisted they wear the padding. Neither of them really needed any of it. They could easily take the damage, but these mortals didn't know that. After she was decked out in the padding, she went to stand with Theseus and waited for instructions. She could have easily lead this class herself, so could Theseus. This would likely turn out fun, but this instructor needed to back off a little.

___________________

The instructor was still talking when Theseus took his stance and started a little lighthearted swordplay with his date. He turned to look at the two. "I still have some rules to go over..." he said giving Theseus a poignant look. "We don't need rules, we've done this before." The other students actually watched in awe while the two battled it out---so eloquently even.

The instructor's mouth dropped. He'd been studying fencing for years. He had nothing on either of them. "Where did you come from?" he said in whispery awe.

___________________

That was more like it. Nike didn't give it a second thought and joined Theseus with ease. "Rules are for those who have no idea what they're doing," she added while blocking Theseus. It felt good to hold a sword again. And against someone who knew how to fight.

Nike smirked at Theseus, feeling the energy of having an audience. "You wouldn't believe us if we told you," she said plainly.

___________________

Theseus did a full spin, metal striking metal in one block after another. "Is that all, love?" He put out his free hand in challenge. Because she was so feisty, he liked poking the fire.

___________________

They moved in such fluid motions it almost looked staged. There was a fire in Nike's eyes at his jeer. It only encouraged her. She never shirked from a challenge. Her own movements quickened. She heard someone in the crowd comment on how swift she was on her feet. She ducked, swung, spun almost in perfect unison with Theseus' own moves. Gods, she'd missed this.

___________________

Theseus gave her a stern look that said 'let's pick this up a notch', and he started with quicker strikes. "Can you keep up?" He had missed this too. They were going to take over this entire hour and the others would be nothing more than an audience.

___________________

Nike was completely focused and in the zone. Nike smirked, "Of course I can, can you?" The others were nothing but background noise now, Nike dodging his attacks and metal crashing against metal.

___________________

Theseus laughed with arrogance. This wasn't a fight to the death but it was just to show off. Showing off what they both could do with their eyes closed. Perfect ring into the New Year. By the end of it, no one had actually done anything except watch them duel it out like pros.

___________________

"Out of things to say?" She didn't even notice when the instructor said the hour was up. She just kept on until the guy was dumb enough to step between them "WHOA. You're gonna lose something doing that," she warned. The crowd awed in unison and Nike made a disappointed face. She gave the instructor a death look as she went to remove her padding. "We weren't even finished," she said when they were out the door, "I didn't get to knock you on your ass." She gave him a friendly shove.
___________________

"Just admiring a good woman." He gave her a devious smile and quirky brow. The more he uncovered, the more amazing she became. This could be dangerous and he was so on board with it. "Oh don't worry, I'll give you another opportunity to put me on my ass tonight." Since their last big date things had become a little more intimate and he fully intended to stay this time.
___________________

"That's the cheesiest line I've ever heard," she smirked. Of course, inside she was saying you're damn right I'm a good woman! But Nike couldn't go around telling people those sort of things. It would give the wrong impression. Nike's brows rose at his comment and she turned to punch him in the arm. "So you're saying you'll let me come out on top?"
___________________

"Cheesy but still effective." He threw his hands up in defeat. "I'm giving you a window of opportunity. That's all I'm saying," he rubbed his arm. He knew when she got a little more aggressive he was hitting the right buttons.

___________________

"Don't be so sure of yourself," Nike warned. "Mm-hmm," she glanced at him with a smirk. "So... What's next?" she asked, linking her arm with his as they walked on.

___________________

"Fireworks? There's no way in all Hades we'll make it to Times Square on such short notice. All those bodies shoved into one spot, really don't feel like screaming at you the rest of the night just to carry on a conversation."

___________________

Nike shook her head, not fond of the idea of be surrounding in a sea of mortals. "Definitely not Times Square," she agreed. Then she stopped, tugging on his arm to to do the same. "We could go back to my place and make the rest of it a private night."
___________________

Theseus stopped mid-stride to give her that questioning brow. He'd teased her all this time, but to be invited with a possibility of staying there. That was a big jump for her. He hadn't thought his teasing would pay off (he'd just hoped it would do the trick). "I would not be inclined to turn that down." He took this carefully.
___________________

Nike quirked a brow with a hint of amusement and then tugged him in the opposite direction. "Excellent. I've had enough of other people for one night." It hadn't been his teasing so much as she had been seriously considering letting him stay over for some time now. It wasn't something she would admit, so she would let him take all the credit for this idea.
