Who: Dani and Vicodin
What: Dani has a relapse
When: Friday night
Where: Victor and Diana's place
Warnings: Drugs
For the past few weeks, it had become more and more difficult for Dani to ignore her cravings. She had managed to keep up a good face in front of her students, but once she was home, she felt like she was falling apart a little more each day.
Once she'd dismissed the last class of the day, she caught the train home, throwing herself through the door of her apartment and collapsing onto the sofa. She stared out the window for close to an hour, drumming her fingers on the arm of the couch. She was twitchy and tense, and she kept looking at her phone every ten seconds.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed her phone, scrolling through the contacts until she found Victor's number. She had kept meaning to erase it, but somehow, she'd just...never gotten around to it. And before she could stop herself, she was tapping out a short message to Victor, then heading out to catch another train.
She turned up on his doorstep less than an hour later, hands jammed into the pockets of her jacket. Victor opened the door, smiling slightly at her. "I have to say, liebling, I was surprised to hear from you again," he told her, moving aside to let her pass. "Last time we parted, you were pretty clear you wanted nothing to do with me."
Dani shrugged, leaning against the wall. "I'm tired of fighting it," she said. "I want to feel better. I'm tired of feeling twitchy and strung out all the time. What we had was...it wasn't the best for me, but I felt great while we were in it. I just want to feel like that again for a little while."
Victor watched her speak, resisting the urge to let the Cheshire cat-esque smile unfurl across his face. They always came back to him, in the end. He led her into the kitchen, where he'd been separating pills for distribution. The sight of them made Dani's mouth go dry. She wanted them. Right now, she wanted them more than anything.
Victor handed her two of the pills and a glass of water, and Dani swallowed them with barely a second thought. They started to work almost immediately, and she slid into a chair, feeling blissful and boneless. She looked up at Victor, her eyes bright and soft. "I forgot how much I used to enjoy this," she sighed.
Victor stood behind her, threading his fingers through her hair, while soaking up the feeling of her trip. "It's nice not seeing you so stressed out, liebling," he murmured. "You always did push yourself too hard."
Dani snorted. "That's putting it lightly. It's what I came here to forget. And, truth be told...I missed you a bit. You always knew how to make me smile."
Victor hummed contentedly, stroking her neck. "You have a beautiful smile, Dani," he told her. "I liked bringing it out."
Dani sat there for a few more moments, relishing in the good feelings, Victor still stroking her hair. After a little longer, she finally said, "Victor?"
"Hmm?"
"You should take me to bed."
Victor laughed, loud and bright. He picked her up out of the chair, bridal style. "I'm pretty sure I can do that, liebling," he said, kissing her as he ascended the stairs.
