Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Thomas, Nerd [Serenity], and Lena. Open to Jamie and/or Roxanna and/or Maddy (they all live there)
WHAT: Flooooof
WHEN: Sunday
WHERE: Their duplex, Kemp-side
WARNINGS: Floooof (none)

It wasn't often that Thomas was alone in the house, but every single one of his co-habitants, at least the ones from his side of the duplex, seemed to be out. He had spent rather longer than normal walking around the kitchen in his underwear before deciding to get dressed just in case Jamie and Roxanna came home early. He had never really been the 'naked at home' kind of guy anyway, which was probably because he had shared a studio apartment with his son for the greater part of his life.

Once he was clothed, he watched a bit of television with Jayne curled in his lap. Then that got boring and he wandered around the house singing to himself, "hey, Micky, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Micky! Hey Micky!" That didn't exactly capture his imagination either, which was why when Serenity ducked through the door connecting their sides of the duplex, she found Thomas lying on the floor, his legs propped up on the sofa, with one of his text-books over his face.

"Uh...am I interrupting something?" she asked, her dark eyebrows arched high.

Thomas scrambled up at the voice, the book flying off his face and landing with a thud beside him. "Oh, Jesus. Serena. You scared the f- Hi there. And no, you're only interrupting me slowly going crazy from boredom. Do you want to know something about me? I do not do well on my own. I am not a loner. I am the opposite of a loner."

"Now there's something the Tommy I used to know would never say," Serenity smirked. "You were all, 'yeah I'm a mysterious lone wolf, baby. Aroooooo'."

Thomas chuckled and he moved to hug her. "Yeah yeah," he said, resting his chin on her head for a moment. "I thought I was so cool. Everything okay?" It wasn't that Serenity needed an excuse to come over, necessarily, it was just that she had been pretty absorbed with her games for the last week or so.

Serenity shrugged then, and Thomas noticed her smile falter a little. "I don't know, maybe- Maybe I'm not so good at being alone any more either?" she said, her voice quiet.

Even though Thomas was no longer in love with Serenity, seeing her in any kind of pain still caused a physical ache in his chest. There was something undeniable between them. She was his first love and the mother of his child and that meant something. "Serena," he said gently, "you're not alone."

Serenity sniffed a little and nodded. "I know that. I-I know that, I do."

There was clearly a 'but' there, but Thomas was going to let her get to it when she was ready, instead of forcing her into it. "Coffee? Tea? Anything? I have some kind of horrible orange crap Lena drinks too, if you want to try that?"

It made Serenity laugh, and Thomas counted that as a win, even if it was only a small one. "I'm okay. Just- Will you lie down with me?"

Thomas honestly felt like the entire world froze for a moment and he blinked as he was pretty sure his heart skipped a beat. He was married and Serenity was his ex and surely this was a whole lot of bad, right? "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-"

"Jesus, Thomas, you sound like a vibrator. I don't mean in your bed."

Thomas snorted and the world unfroze. All it tended to take was a sex toy joke or two. "I mean...okay, but uhm, you- You have to understand it doesn't mean-"

"Just forget it-" Serenity interrupted him, but before she could turn to leave, Thomas had taken gentle hold of her wrist.

"Dana." He called her the name he had known her by so many years ago. "It's alright. Come on. There's a mattress in the closet we pull out for movie nights." He moved to the linen closet and pulled out the foam mattress, tossing it onto the living room floor. "There, see? It's fine." Thomas crawled onto the mattress and reached out for Serenity. She took no time to settle down next to him, curling up at his side. "You okay, Serena?"

With a great exhale, Serenity nuzzled into his side. "Not really. Not today. Joss has Maddy and you have Lena and Jamie has Theseus and I love that, I just- It's sort of an every day reminder I fucked up the best relationship I ever had." It went without saying she was talking about Thomas. "And having you all around has been the best thing, I'm just-"

"-lonely," Thomas finished for her.

"Yeah."

It was a struggle to figure out exactly how to explain that he understood exactly how she felt, considering she had been the cause of his loneliness, two decades ago. With Thomas though, there was never anything but honesty. "I know the feeling," he finally settled on. "I was lonely for- God. Eighteen years? I had Jamie and honestly I wouldn't have traded my life with him for a life with anyone else, but sometimes you just...want someone. And there were occasional...you know. But none of them were really good enough for Jamie so I sent them on their way and I had pretty much accepted that my love life would always be my right hand, and then I kind of stumbled on Lena."

"You are incorrigible," Serenity informed him, because no one made a wank reference like Thomas did. "Hey uhm...I'm sorry. For making you lonely, and-"

"Oh stop it, we're past that now," he said, giving her a little squeeze. He planted a kiss on her hair and smiled into it. "My point in all of that was that you can still stumble on to someone. You just have to realise you deserve it."

Serenity didn't say anything else, she just ducked her head into Thomas' chest and cried, and Thomas let her. He held her for over an hour until she quieted and stilled and her breath became rhythmic. He dozed off too, his face buried in her hair.

"Scandal!"

Both Thomas and Serenity jerked awake to see Lena standing over them, grinning like a loon. "Lena-" Thomas said, his voice sleepy.

"It's nothing!" Serenity hissed, and Lena raised her eyebrows.

"Uh, it's very clearly the start of a cuddle pile, Serenity," Lena said, matter-of-factly. Then, before either of them could move, Lena had jumped on top of both of them and wrapped them both into a surprisingly tight hug. "See!?"

"Ooof-" Thomas answered, but he wasn't about to complain.

"Everything okay, darlings?" Lena asked them from on top of them.

"We're okay," Serenity answered, sounding a little more cheerful than she had before. "You really are surprisingly strong."

"I know, it's awesome," Lena joked, but she rolled over so she was lying beside Serenity, her arms around the other woman. "And just by the way, I'm not going to be all jealous crazy bitch because you're cuddling Thomas. That is so not my style."

"I like your style," Serenity smiled at her.

"If Jamie comes home right now, he is going to be very confused," Thomas commented, considering Thomas was lying in a pile consisting of his wife and his former girlfriend.

"He's a big boy, he'll be okay," Lena replied, cuddling the both of them. "Besides, I'm comfy." And Thomas had to admit he was too.
