WHO: Kymopoleia & Briareos
WHEN: Wednesday night
WHERE: 'their' bar
WHAT: hangouts and catchups
WARNINGS: tba

There weren't many people in the bar tonight - the threat of the snow storm (that didn't seem to be coming) or the lack of transportation putting them off - but quite a few of the ones who were were gathered around the pool table while Kymopoleia played against one of the regulars. This guy she ended up playing a lot and the two were pretty equally matched. He was a big burly biker type, about two foot taller than her and about twice as wide, with tattoos and a beard to rival Zeus back in the old days. Ky had never learned his name and so she'd just been calling him Bubbles for the last few months. He didn't mind, and Ky figured it was because she was pretty.

The door opened and Ky looked over to see Briareos coming in. She gave him a chin lift and a half smile of greeting before going back to her game. The ground between Briareos and Kymopoleia was... complicated to her. Since saving his life, there had been a definite shift and the more they 'accidentally' ran into each other in this same bar, the more she didn't mind that it happened.

They weren't together - and Ky couldn't imagine that ever being the case - but it turned out that her old abusive husband was actually the closest thing that Ky had to a friend.

When she finished her game - Bubbles won - Ky made her way over to the bar to grab a beer and then went to the table Briareos had taken up at. "Evening," she said, slipping into the booth opposite him.

Bubbles scratched his beard as he saw what looked like a grass reed sit down at one of the booths. There wasn't anything particularly interesting about the guy except he was emaciated, as if a swift wind would blow him to the ground.

Kymopoleia had become as chummy with Briareos as a cat did with a new roommate. There was something budding that the both of them just took from day to day. Their nightly roundup was becoming more habit than anything. It wasn't an unpleasant one, in fact in some strange way there was some level ground between them. As much as they may think things would stay the same, they were gradually changing beneath the surface. When she spoke, it bubbled up, giving Briareos a welcomed chill on the back of his neck. He didn't always know how to communicate with her, but he made an effort. "New friend?" He asked with the raise of one dark brow, not at all as possessive as it would have been in their past, but there was some aggression there.

"That'd be Bubbles," Ky said, looking over her shoulder to the biker with a flick of red hair. She looked back to her husband. "He plays a good game. One time he even offered to kick some guy's ass cause he was bothering me. Almost adorable." Ky smirked at Briareos, both of them in on the amusing idea that they would need human protection from another human.

He'd grown to like the red hair of hers, it suited her, brightened up her face in a way he hadn't seen before. Ky had never been much for looking happy, but there was something coming out of her that Briareos didn't really understand just yet. He hadn't gotten a grip on his own strange desires. The humans would insist they were feelings, but Briareos was only in a human skin.

"Must think I'm the new pest." Briareos snorted into his beer. Bubbles was eyeing him with concern, or hate. This was one bar they hadn't wrecked, maybe they should keep it that way for a little while longer.

"When in reality you're an old pest," Ky said in a tone that was clearly teasing. Which was as strange for her as it must have been for him, that they'd reached a point in whatever this relationship was where she could make snarky comments without venom behind them. That she could make a joke about the 'old days'. (Some days she couldn't though. Some days she was still so angry at him, but most of the time she couldn't be bothered with anger. It didn't do anything now and his oath on the Styx not to harm her had freed them up in ways she couldn't have imagined. She had no fear at all of Briareos now.)

He smiled against the open bottle in pause to her comment, taking another swig of his drink. There seemed to be no malice between them, despite the fact that Braireos was born of hate and dysfunction. He was never considered more than a lap dog to most, and feared by others. There was no in between. If his own mother cowered in disgust for he and his brothers, what was really there? He was finding out through the wife who'd been sold to him. Poseidon had hoped to torture Ky with him, instead they were reacting quite the opposite.

"He doesn't like it." It wasn't a sexual attraction that sat between them, even thought they were husband and wife. It had never been anything but of raw intentions. It didn't mean that others that were clearly attracted to her didn't find him a bit annoying. Braireos cut his eyes over to his wife, waiting with mild curiosity as to how she'd handle the bearded biker.

"Are you jealous?" Ky asked him with a raised eyebrow. "I'm not fucking Bubbles. And," she added, annoyed at herself for realising it only after she'd said the first part, "even if I was that'd be none of your business. We ain't a thing, Briareos."

Jealousy wasn't something Briareos would define himself as. He just knew that despite them rolling around in a plethora of new feelings, what belonged to him. She was still his wife. "You make it my business." She'd been inviting him into this little inner circle for some time. It wasn't without some backlash to them both. Whatever was budding wasn't about to shrivel.

Under the table, Kymopoleia kicked him in the shin. It wasn't as hard as it could have been, but it was hard enough to hurt and to act as a reminder for him to not be a shithead. It was harder to drink with him and pretend stuff was okay when he was being a shithead. "Not," Ky reminded him, "your business who I fuck. All y0u need to know is that it isn't you."

Briareos shot a look at her, that old anger rippling to the surface. There was a lot of testosterone in that tiny bar, he was feeding into it. "It isn't me, but isn't them either." She was a free spirit, but she was still married to him. This new thing between them made more casual encounters with others seem less appropriate. Briareos wasn't exactly a shining example of being a husband or knowing what it meant behind his entitlement, but this stuff was starting to matter----even in it's smallest measure.

"Don't make me open up the part I burned shut," Ky warned him, pointing towards where that life-threatening wound had been.

She was threatening him but not out of cowardice. He wasn't backing down either to be some slug to be stomped on. "What is this to you?" Why he wanted to define it right now seemed strange, but he was breathing in the fumes of rage, lust and desires in that bar. Not just from her.

"What?" she asked him, making a face. "Do you mean you and me?" she asked, wondering how this could possibly even be a question. "We're not dating, B. I hang around you because sometimes you don't piss me off, and you made an oath on Styx you weren't going to hurt me. Here's a tip," she said, leaning over the table towards you, "when a girl's gotta make you swear an unbreakable oath, she's not dating you."

He didn't even understand the concept of "dating". Women were married off and there was none of this get-to-know-you period. They were married and just now getting to that stage. "I'm not going to hurt you." He wasn't backing down from that, but he had every right to be aggressive to the other men that were ready to harpoon his wife.

"You're not going to hurt me," Ky reminded him, "because you now can't." She sighed, taking a drink from her beer. "Do I gotta remind you again that you've spent more time hurting me than anyone else in my life, my father included?"

She didn't know just how much his body ached these days. They lived in a place that he could grow off of. He wasn't exactly anywhere near his true nature, but he felt it sometimes inside, as if it wanted to rip its way out. His bones ached, his muscles moved around underneath like water. His skin was just a skin.

Over the years he'd just grown used to the man suit as being his true form now. But here in New York they were surrounded by many other sea beings. Thetis, Poseidon, Amphitrite, Rhode and then Ky herself. Briareos had a little more to feed from than he had in a long, long time.

So, yes he'd made an oath, but when she reprimanded him as if he were a child he had no response but the cut of his eyes. They were cold for a moment but he swallowed down his bottle of beer and didn't let it agitate him. "Your father was the one who sold you, not me." Her father had been the one to start the wheel of pain.

"Yeah," Ky said, "and you'll notice I tried to murder him and haven't even spoken to him in a couple of years. Instead here I am having drinks with you on the regular. So," she suggested, pointing her bottle at him, "maybe cut me some slack because I've saved your goddamn life twice now but you still try to act like you own me."

She sighed and leaned back in her seat, watching him. "A life for a life, Briareos. That's how it works."
