Julia had never even considered the possibility that one of her arresting officers might some day become her nephew. How was that even a thing that happened? And yet she was standing on her niece's porch, her arms wrapped around her skinny frame, just knowing it was going to be answered by Victor.

A man she had tried to bribe with sex no less than three times.

When he did indeed pull open the door, he looked her over quickly before pulling her inside. "It's freezing out, Julia. Come inside."

Julia did as Victor told her to, though she was nowhere near comfortable with him yet. "Yeah, tell me about it. The squirt asleep?"

"Deirdre's napping but she'll be up soon." Julia just nodded, staring at Victor until he pointed towards his bedroom. "Kat's in there, if you'd like to say hi."

"Yeah, shit." Julia walked over and stuck her head into Kat's room. "Hey, it's your loser aunt."

This whole being sick was getting to her. The chemo was kicking her ass and not letting her be with her family. She'd finally drawn the line and demanded they do the surgery. But that needed more wait time to let her recover from the chemo, which is what she was doing now.

At least she looked less awful now. She looked up at Julia's voice and paused her game. "Hey auntie," she gave teasingly. Can I bribe you into helping me get up? Vic might frown though, fair warning."

	She took the help to sit up then rise from the bed and followed Julia. "Sort of. Throwing up less. Surgery is next month if I get better quick enough." "Yeah, but once it's over, hopefully that'll be the last of it," Julia said, and she really did hope that. Sure, she'd only just met Kat, but she really liked her.

"Shit," she said with a sigh. "Lost my job and I'm broke. Had to go beg food from Roxie two days ago, but Lena sent me home with shitloads so I'm okay there." Julia sighed and ran her hands through her hair, and then she startled when Victor jumped up.

"Sorry, just...going to go cook some dinner. You're eating here, no arguments."

"Oh believe me, I won't," Julia agreed.

She nodded, "Hopefully. I'll have to go back to make sure it hasn't spread but everyone keeps saying it hasn't so far so I'm taking that. I'll have to keep an eye out, but it's better then this whole mess."

She wasn't surprised when Victor jumped up, just smiled fondly. "He's in worry mode. You'll have more then you can handle." She wasn't hungry, although she knew she should eat something. The whole being sick thing had messed with her appetite.

"Do you want help with the job thing? I can get you one. Only downside it'll be with Hecate, which isn't a bad job. She pays stupidly well and you get to walk all her dogs but it does have the bad side of a Hermes problem every so often."

She nodded, "And I wouldn't make you do that. If you want I'll talk to him and make sure he won't make you do anything you don't want to. Advantages of being a favorite" she rolled her eyes at her grandfathers hypocrisy.

"It's good pay though, and she'll let you yell at idiots. She's a bit...spooky, and if you're direct you might see her ghosts." She made a face, "more warnings. Sorry."

Julia was glad that, at least, her father had always seen her as useful. Not a favourite, sure, but she wasn't cast off like Roxanna. Hermes even listened to her on occasion. "I don't like profiting from someone else's loss. And that's what I was doing with him."

Julia had met Hecate a few times, but she hadn't interacted much. "I don't mind seeing ghosts. All I care about is paying my rent and not hurting someone to do it. Like...all those skills are right there. Stealing, faking shit to take advantage, breaking and entering...all of it. I'm good at it. Is Brannigan turning red yet?"

"No no," Victor said from the kitchen, "honestly, I'm not judging!"

"He means that," she added with a smile. "Plus also I'm claiming the whole turning Brannigan red job." Not that she had, recently but being sick had kind of put a damper on a lot of things. "And I get it, I really do."

"I mean, my mother says nothing about her childhood. But then she had us, and suddenly she moves us across the ocean. Once I knew, and now I'm older I just gotta ask what he asked her to do you know? What made her do that." She shrugged, "even me and my sisters got part of that shitty package. Watered down, maybe but we still got some. Part of why I just focus on the languages. The robots is all me though."

Julia burst out laughing when Kat said she claimed turning Victor red. "Hey, no argument from me," she said with her hands raised.

"It's...a constant battle. I see something I want and know I could just take it. So what's stopping me?" Julia didn't know what had made Erica flee the country either, so she just shrugged. "He's weird. Changeable. I just wish I'd been a better person earlier so I never got into all this shit. The criminal record's from before though. It's not from working with Hermes, it's from when I lived on the street."

"Good," she offered with half a smirk before listening to Julia. "It is, but you just keep trying." She sighed, "it's the trickster thing I think. But yeah he is."

"Shit, I'm sorry about that," it was more sympathy then pity. She couldn't relate. She'd always had it good. "I can promise you that won't happen again. You'll always have a place here if you need it."

"Yeah. Trickster bullshit. I haven't though. Taken anything, I mean. I haven't taken anything in ages. Not even the other day when I was starving. 'Cause I knew Roxie'd help me."

Victor entered the room carrying a plate of carrot sticks and a bowl of hummus. "Dinner's cooking but here. Snacks. Kat's right, you can always stay here."

"I still can't believe you aren't kicking me out, Brannigan. I mean, I tried to suck your dick to get out of an arrest."

Victor just kind of closed his eyes for a moment at the phrasing, before shaking his head. "And nothing happened so it doesn't matter."

She grinned, "good. One day at a time nad if you slip, that's okay. We're only human. And we'll always help you too. If you need it."

She blinked, then laughed. After a while she couched then winced, "shit don't do that, laughing makes me hurt." She took a breath then giggled. "I can just see his face when you offered. That's great." She smiled innocently and looked to her fiancee. "Would it work for me?"

	Julia ducked her head, but she was grinning. "Sorry! No laughing, check." She caught the reddening of Victor's cheeks to Kat's question though, and snorted really loudly. "Oh my god, look at him!" 	Victor's reaction really didn't help. She just laughed again, and set her hand on her stomach. "I'm a bad person." She giggled until she calmed down and shook her head. She smiled, "you'll find them. I mean I did. I kind of tripped into this, never really thought I'd have anything like this. I still owe my cousin. He wouldn't have said anything if it wasn't for her. I didn't even know he liked me." She shook her head. "and you know he encourages the evil overlord plan. The evil overlord's significant other gets amazing benefits afterall."

Victor stuck his head back out of the kitchen and chuckled. "Aoife was rather convincing. And you would be the cutest overlord."

Julia just smiled at both of them. It was so nice being surrounded by good people. "You relaxed yet there, big guy?"

"Oh, you know. Mostly," Victor said, wandering back in. He sat beside Kat and reached for her hand to kiss it. "And Kat, you know you have me wrapped around your pinky and you could get me to do anything you wanted."

She smiled gently to Victor's words, and the kiss on his hand. "See, he's trying to get even. Sneaky. And be careful with that detective," it was said mostly flirty and with a grin, "I'll take that and run with it."

She kept her smile and looked back to Julia. A bit deliberately but feeling good enough to flirt a bit hadn't been something she'd felt any time lately so she was taking advantage of it. "So I can call you tomorrow about the job thing though. That alright?"

"We do," Victor agreed. "Be right back, honey." He kissed Kat's shoulder and rose, heading into the kitchen.

"I still can't believe me lets me anywhere near you. Or your daughter. Not after what he saw."

"He saw a young woman in a terrible situation, doing what she had to do to survive," Victor said, returning and pushing a plate of mashed potatoes and schnitzel into her hands. "Kat, you think you could handle some mashed potatoes?" There was worry in his eyes now, and Julia stayed quiet.

"What he said," she offered with a gentle smile. She sat up when the food came and smiled at Victor. "I'll try." She'd been surviving off crackers for awhile. She was easing into more solid food, although so far soup had proven to be something she could tolerate without throwing it right back up.

"Can you go get Deirdre love? If she sleeps through this meal she'll wake up cranky and hungry later."
