Lena's chest felt fit to burst when Jamie bared his soul like that. She knew he didn't always find it easy to do so. "Babe, we're worried you're acting differently because you're afraid we might leave you. I promise, Thomas, we're here for good."
Thomas' expression remained blank and then slowly he reached out a hand to give Jamie's arm a gentle squeeze before he withdrew it again. "I can try to be more jovial if it will make you happy."
"Oh, Jesus Christ," Lena hissed, sick of hearing that same old tune. "Thomas, you need to stop doing things just to make us happy!"
With that, Thomas looked entirely defeated. "I don't...I don't understand what you want me to do! I've been eating like I'm supposed to and talking to everyone and interacting and I don't know what else I can do to make you ha-"
"Do not say 'to make you happy' or I will...I dunno...poke you in the liver," Lena warned and, to her surprise, Thomas let out one barking laugh.
