She wiped her eyes with the sleeve of the hoodie and looked at him warily, "Do you remember when I was first with Mike? And you and I had that big fight? Where you walked away? You told me you wouldn't do that again. And you have a couple of times since then but it's when we both need space. Not like this.." her eyes filled with fresh tears, "I trusted you with that and it's a stupid small thing but I trusted you." it was something others made her feel like an idiot for so she never said anything but with him, she told him her crazy thing cause she felt he would understand. And he had. But not anymore. _________________________________________________ He looked like monkey with it's fingers all over her face, wiping at her tears. He couldn't keep his hands off of her, like he was reminding himself that she really was alive and unlike earlier with their joke---not a ghost. "I didn't walk away from you, I walked away from me. I'm always rooted to specific spots on when and where I can have you." This was rolling back to the reason they were even here in the first place---since he made his deal with a demon. It was that line of thinking that put them in this vulnerable position. Why she saw Greed and didn't see him as the boy anymore. "So sometimes I get a little pissed with myself that I can't handle very much before boiling over." He wanted to try, he was just skipping over the little victories---and he should be more excited about those than the big things he couldn't have just yet. _________________________________________________ She gave him a look, "You walked away from me. You didn't get what you wanted and everything else didn't matter. I didn't exist to you in that moment. I could FEEL you forget me. You didn't even notice I wasn't there until you got back to the jeep!" she smacked his hand away again as tears spilled down her cheeks. _________________________________________________ "I didn't do it on purpose!" It was just his natural reaction to things. He was more in tune to his Sin side than ever, she had to work with him here as the Sin he was, not as the human she was used to. The Sin may have grown up and learned a lot of things through this whole ordeal, but he was still learning. _________________________________________________ "That doesn't make it okay!" she shot back. She wasn't going to cut him slack because then he'd just keep doing it. "If you can forget me now? I..." she shook her head, "All it reminds me of is the future, and you keep on pouting over the day I'll die but I KNOW that won't be when we're not together. I know it'll be when I get older. And you'll get frustrated. And walk away for a moment. And then get distracted. And you'll forget me. And it won't be for a few minutes. It'll be a lot longer and by the time you remember...." it wasn't their story. It was Sophia and Theseus' story. Theseus left to just get away for a bit, then he didn't remember Sophia anymore and by the time he did, she was dead. And today was such a small thing but Zoe was still heart broken over Greed breaking up with her, him forgetting her for even a moment just showed her that he was capable of it. And one day that moment would be a lot longer and because he was immortal he wouldn't even realize it. _________________________________________________ The cold hard truth was hard for any child to actually hear. It made things happen inside his chest, this tightening, constricting feeling that he could never quite get used to. She yanked him around and when she was done explaining he wasn't really sure what he could say in response. She'd nailed him with the truth and it hurt. History was repeating itself for her, like it had with her mother, and her father, and now he was just doing the same. What could Greed say to the truth. It was horrible, and he was horrible for it.
