Aidan had built a fire once the rain had started to fall, tending it until the flames were burning brightly. He'd settled down in front of it with a book, not paying attention to much else.

When the pounding came, it jerked him back to awareness, and he pushed himself up to answer the door. "Red?" he asked, very confused. "Come in, you look soaked the bone. Fuck, what happened to your face?"
