Jamie felt cold all over, and disoriented, like down was suddenly up. He'd heard the expression 'getting the rug pulled out from under you' before, but never really understood. Not until now.
"I'm not even mad about the drugs," he said after a moment. "I'm more upset about the fact that you lied. You promised me, when I was a little kid, that you would never lie to me. No secrets between us, you promised." He pushed himself up from the floor and walked out, tugging Roxanna along with him. He'd come back later, but right now, he was upset and feeling hugely betrayed, and he needed to get out of there before he said something stupid.
"Jamie, what-" Roxanna started to ask.
"Roxie, I love you, but please...just give me a minute," he said, dragging them both inside and shutting the door. She nodded mutely, sitting on the edge of the bed to wait.
