Serenity grinned and bit her lip, trying to suppress a hoot of joy he probably didn't need in his face. "Knowing I am helping make you feel safe is just...the best thing," she said, putting a hand on her chest, over her heart. God, how had she missed so much of his life? He was so wonderful and being around him now...it made her ache for the past she had lost because of her own idiocy.
"If- If I could go back now, I would make a different choice," she said seriously. "And I know saying that now is pointless and it doesn't make up for the fact that I left, but I still need you to know that.
