The atmosphere in the Kemp house was slowly returning to normal. It was still hushed and kind of quiet, but it was more like...a church in mid-service, and less funeral home. At least, it had been until Maddy showed up with enough lunch for a dozen people, and Roxanna had texted about half an hour later, asking Jamie for 'help' with her math homework. Which was ridiculous, because Roxanna could sleep her way through her math class and still ace it, but Jamie didn't call her on it. In fact, he was actually pretty grateful for the company.

The tone of the house lightened a bit after that, and Jamie actually found himself laughing a few times, without wincing immediately afterward. It was the normalcy he longed for after the shitshow the past few days had turned into, and he planned to enjoy each and every moment of it.

Lena had rushed off to get a few of the sketches Jamie had made for her wedding dress, but she was distracted by someone knocking on the door. She skidded to a halt and opened the door, grinning widely when she saw Serenity there. "Hey!" she said, pulling Serenity into a tight hug. "How are you?"

"Worried about all of you," Serenity said, hugging Lena back, even though she looked a bit awkward as she did so. She was back to looking like Jamie, dark hair framing her face. When she had been released, Serenity went to hug Jamie. "Hello, darling. How are you?"

Jamie had wandered into the hallway, wondering who it was that had decided to visit this time. He smiled when he saw Serenity standing there, and went into her hug gratefully. He always felt a bit better when she wore this face, it was the one he knew the best, the one that said 'mom' to him. "Hi, Mom," he said, giving her a squeeze. "Better than yesterday. Undoubtedly I'll be better tomorrow, it's sort of slow but steady going."

	Whenever Jamie called her 'mom', Serenity felt a little thrill go through her she had never expected to feel. When he pulled back, she gave him a sad smile. "I'm so sorry anyone gave you something to feel upset about." Then Serenity gazed at the new person and reached out a hand. "Hello, I'm Jamie's mother. And you are?" Jamie sighed. "I'm just really tired of evil things doing shitty things to everyone I love, you know? That can stop now."

Roxanna, who had stuck her head around the corner at the new voice, had meant to retreat before then, but apparently she wasn't fast enough. "Oh! Uhm. Hi. I'm Roxanna, I'm a friend of Jamie's. Lena sort of adopted me when I was having a bad time." She shook Serenity's hand, looking between the two of them. "I can definitely see the resemblance."

Serenity smiled benevolently at Roxanna and then she nodded. "Well, when I look like this you can anyway," she said mysteriously.

Thomas trooped in as well, a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He had taken to wearing it around the house look a cape for the past week. It was like it offered him extra security. "Lo, Serena. Want coffee?"

"Oh will you come here," she said, moving over to pull him into a hug. Thomas didn't protest, but he wasn't terribly cuddly about it either. "Tommy-"

"It's fine," he said, disengaging himself from the embrace. "I'm fine. I'm making coffee."

	"You know, I feel like that should weird me out more than it does," Roxanna said, shoving her hands into the pockets of her jeans. "But that's like...a 3 on the weird scale." Serenity nodded, accepting that easily. "Yes, I am not the strangest being there is out there. Fascinating, isn't it?"

When Jamie looked at him with worry, Thomas figured he better snap out of it. "I'm sorry, I'm okay." He shuffled over to hug Jamie and then returned to the coffee machine so he could start it up. "Still just achey and tired. Willing to cut off my left nut for some vicodin. Well okay, maybe not..."

"OK, I just heard that in Leonard Nimoy's voice when I played that back in my head," Roxanna laughed. "And no, you're really not. My father's second wife is definitely up there, though."

"Yeah, you're totally OK," Jamie sighed. "You just seem...I don't know, kind of wooden. Which I don't blame you for at all, given what you went through. I just worry about you. A lot."

Serenity just laughed, enjoying Roxanna very much. "I think you have the Serenity seal of approval," Lena chirped, patting Roxanna's shoulder. "We're going to start a band, Serena. We're gonna rock people's socks off."

"And you're allowed to be as long as you aren't doing anything illegal," Thomas agreed. "I just...find it hard to take joy in someone else's suffering. I didn't think I would, but the second I saw the photo, that's where I ended up."

"Oh good, because I like hanging out with Jamie, it would have sucked for his mom to be all, 'That girl's weird, I don't like her'. I would've made sad faces for weeks. But yes, we're gonna start a band, and it's gonna be awesome."

"I'm not saying you should run around smiling and cackling with glee," Jamie said. "I'm just saying you're allowed to not feel bad for him, because he's a fucking terrible being that decided to try and break us all one by one."

Serenity shook her head and said, "I don't think I really get to make judgements on Jamie's friends anyway. I wasn't around long enough. If Thomas likes you, I do. And a band, hmm, sounds awesome."

"I know," Thomas nodded. "I know I can hope all kinds of terrible things befall him, but seeing one of those terrible things- It just turned my stomach a bit. Still. He hurt my son, and there's no way in hell I would intervene and make it stop. So there that is." Harming Jamie was pretty much the only way to make Thomas get wrathful.

"That's pretty much how I'd feel about my father, if he ever decided to take an interest," Roxanna said. "But yeah, everyone's been great about making me feel welcome. I've become well-acquainted with their couch, it loves when I nap on it."

"Which is fair," Jamie said. "I'm not exactly staring at those pictures and cackling with glee, but I'm not texting anyone and going, 'Let's call this off before it gets insane'. Maybe it'll get him to back the fuck off."

"Come on," Lena said, dragging Roxanna towards the kitchen, her arms still around her waist.

"That he is," Thomas nodded. "And he is not allowed to have Lena. He can have me again first, and I don't fucking want that either. Never, ever, ever. Which reminds me, we should burn those clothes and the money and make s'mores over the flames. You game?"

"I'M GAME!" Lena called out from the door as they walked in.

"I agree," Thomas nodded, and me moved to wrap his arms around Jamie, engulfing him in the blanket as well. The smell of strawberry shampoo wafted out as he did so. Since coming home and getting over his withdrawal, he had been taking about three showers a day. He just felt gross if he didn't.

Lena giggled at the way Jamie seemed to disappear into the blanket. "He's a giant and he's still dwarfed by that thing," she laughed.

"It's a king," Thomas grinned, still hugging Jamie tightly. Then, because he felt like they needed a little mirth, he tickled Jamie's sides. "The flames can wait for a few moments. I have to bother my son for a second."

Maddy came in from the living room with the last of the lunch dishes, laughing at the scene in front of her. "Hey Serenity, hey Roxanna," she called, setting everything in the sink.

Jamie collapsed into giggles, he was horribly ticklish over his ribs. He started twisting to get away from his father's fingers. "Cheater!" he laughed, getting trapped in the blanket and not really caring.

	Serenity smiled widely at Maddy and then laughed as Thomas continued to tickle their son. "I don't cheat! I just defy rules with my being!" Thomas called out, continuing his tickling until Jamie's knees turned to jelly and they were a blanketed, giggling, hugging heap on the floor. "Is this normal for humans?" 	"Nope! Totally fair!" Thomas called, though he only kept up the tickling for a second after they fell onto the floor. After reducing Jamie to a writhing mass on the floor, he let up, but he remained laughing. "I kind of want to jump on top of both of them," Lena said with a matter-of-fact look on her face.
