Who: Jesse Delacroix (Could be open to Jayden, JJ, and Nicholas)
What: My name is Death and the end is here
When: Really early Friday morning
Where: Delacroix house

Jesse had only made one other visit to the hospital since his fight with his father, and he'd only stayed for about ten minutes, chatting with the doctor about his condition. It was about what he'd expected, his father was continuing to deteriorate, the pain medication could only do so much, it was really just a matter of days now. Jesse had poked his head into the room, but there'd been no reaction from the man in the bed, and so he'd just left again.

Thursday night, he'd heated up some of the casserole one of the church ladies had brought over, laid around and watched a little TV, and then gone to bed. He was awoken, however, around 3 in the morning, by his phone blaring 'Broken Crown' from the nightstand. He blinked a few times, groping for it so he could figure out who it was. He managed to wiggle himself out of bed, grabbing the phone, taking it into the hallway and mumbling, "'lo?" into it.

"Is this Jesse Delacroix?" an unfamiliar female voice on the other end asked.

"Speaking," Jesse said around a yawn.

"I'm so sorry to wake you, Mr. Delacroix-"

"Just Jesse's fine, ma'am."

"Jesse, then," she answered. "Anyway, I know it's late, and I'm very sorry, but I thought you'd want to know. Your father passed away about 20 minutes ago. I'm very sorry."

Jesse was suddenly much more awake than he'd been. He breathed out a huge sigh. "I see," he murmured. "Thank you for letting me know."

"If you could come by the hospital, perhaps in the early afternoon, there's some paperwork you'll need to fill out, allowing us to release your father to the funeral home, things of that nature. It shouldn't take very long."

"Sure thing," Jesse replied. "I could probably be in, say...around 1?"

"Perfect," the woman said, and he could hear her making a note. "We'll see you at 1, and again, my condolences on your loss."

"Thank you," Jesse said, and he hung up. He shoved the phone into his pocket, sliding down the wall until he was sitting on the floor. He knew that most people would feel utterly crushed if their father died, but he just felt...free. For the first time in almost a decade, that long, heavy shadow that his father cast was finally gone. There would have to be a funeral, and they'd have to pack up, and possibly sell the house, but at least he and Jayden could start to move on with their lives. And that, to him at least, that was the most important thing.
