Who: Huitzilopotchli and Mary Magdalene What: Oddest Friends Ever (2011-02-05) When: Saturday Early AM Where: New York Street Warnings: Standard Aztec Warning (mentions of heart-nomming, blood, violence), some language, awkward hummingbird,
Huitzilopotchli admitted to enjoying his conversations with Mary. She was a Christian he could endure. She agreed with him. And in some ways he would not want her outside at this hour. These streets were dangerous, and he protected those he called friends as much as he would protect Quetzalcoatl or Coyote. So after his latest offering he'd swung by near her apartment. There he waited until he spotted her and with a smile walked over to her.
"Hello." He smiled at her, keeping his hands in his pockets. Some people got uncomfortable if they saw the blood on his fingers. He made sure she wasn't hurt before falling to her side. "Where are we walking?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-05 08:34 am UTC (link) Track This The late night wasn't all that quiet being a Saturday and Mary made her way through the few small groups of drunken youths out and about. Her arms were crossed against her chest to keep warm and she'd been smart enough to go with jeans and sneakers though, so her footfalls were quiet.
Mary looked up when Huitzilopotchl showed up and gave him a smile that was a little weak. "Hey, Weetzie. We're walking... anywhere that isn't my place."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-05 08:46 am UTC (link) Track This The pronunciation made him blink. Then laugh. He had some sort of humor somewhere. She seemed troubled, and cold. He could fix the latter. He removed his hands and set them on a shoulder, letting his warmth pour over her. He never minded doing this for friends. It was a social thing he got. "Huitzilopotchli." He pronounced it carefully. "If you must shorten it," and he didn't like it, "it is Huitzi."
He glanced back, "do you not feel safe?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-05 09:26 am UTC (link) Track This "Huiiiit-zi," Mary said very clearly for his benefit, although she hadn't seen a huge difference in the way she'd said it. (She'd looked up the Aztecs. They all had insane names.) She liked the heat though.
She shrugged at Huitzilopotchli's question and then said, "not unsafe, just bitchy. People suck." She'd met that couple before, she'd passed them in the halls quiet a few times. She hadn't known one of them was a psycho.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-05 09:35 am UTC (link) Track This He could hear the difference. It mattered. He let her guide him, happy enough to trail behind and offer warmth. This cold bothered even him. He glanced to the nearby mortals and nodded, "Mortals tend to do that yes. Obviously Quetzalcoatl made them wrong." It showed that when he realized she might not know what he was speaking of, he was actually making steps to being more social.
"Quetzalcoatl is a creator. He made mortals to us." He glanced to her, looking for his gifts. He may not have known what they might have meant but it had been something nice to do for someone else. "You did not like my gifts?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-05 02:33 pm UTC (link) Track This Quetzalcoatl made the world and all its people. Or God made the world and all its people. Really the only truth could ever be that the world made itself and Gods just took credit. Blasphemous but how could anyone not be in this world?
She frowned at his question and then explained, "I was sleeping, so I wasn't going to put on jewelery to go walking the streets at night. I'm trying to not get mugged. I love the things you sent though. They're all really pretty."
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-05 09:31 pm UTC (link) Track This "Oh." That seemed reasonable. He knew he'd made a rather big mistake by giving her jewelry (apparently it had been taken the wrong way), and he hadn't wanted to offend her. He was glad she liked the gifts though, even though his social awkwardness had gotten in the way.
He glanced around again, making a mental note to put some of his warriors here and get this neighborhood under his control. He'd not have a friend worry she was going to be mugged, or worse, for just walking down a street. "I do apologize, again, for it. I do not always get social rules."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 12:44 am UTC (link) Track This "I've noticed," Mary told him with amusement and then slipped her arm around his and turned him so they could walk together that way. "So to what do I owe the pleasure of you being around?"
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 08:37 am UTC (link) Track This He did not correct her, because it was true. He just shrugged and followed her. He never minded following others on random walks. "Your little blog thing made it sound like you could use a friend. And I was around and would not let anyone I care for get harmed."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 08:39 am UTC (link) Track This "Thanks then," Mary said, letting herself be honest with me. "Waking up to gunfire actually freaked me out a lot. Thought it was someone in my apartment at first."
She walked at a slow pace, not really having anywhere specific she wanted to be. She just needed to kill time until the cops and everyone cleared out.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 08:48 am UTC (link) Track This He shrugged again, "you are welcome. And it would disturb me too." He'd just react differently and then there would be two murder investigations. Just one with a missing heart involved.
It made hi more determined to get control over the neighborhood. It seemed the least he could do. As they walked he spared a glance to the sky before looking back to Mary, knowing he should at least attempt conversation." Besides, that how are you?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 08:57 am UTC (link) Track This "Good," Mary nodded. "Just got this data entry job which is so boring I sort of want to kill myself, but it pays the bills. And I'm supposed to go preach sometime but I don't think I'll be able to do much better than 'stop being fucking douchebags, all of you.'" Mary was unfair on herself in that respect. Jesus had always said she was one of his finest speakers, the one whom he trusted to pass messages on to the other apostles. "How about you? You and your birds good?"

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 09:05 am UTC (link) Track This "We are as we always are. Well enough. The snow killed two of them, which saddens me." He cared for his birds, more then he did for anything else. They were his. He glanced to her, "hearing you tell the hypocrites off would be amusing, but I do not go near churches. They offend me. As for jobs," he waved his hand like it would explain everything. "I am a God. I have mortals who tend to me." It sounded rather vain but he was what he was. He'd always been looked after. Making his own way wasn't something he knew how to do.
"I met a Moon-God the other day," from voice alone it was obvious he wasn't fond of anything to do with anything moon related. "It was strange meeting a male Moon-God, but he was tolerable enough. Save for the hugging." Huiztilopotchli didn't hug often. He didn't know how to react to it.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 09:11 am UTC (link) Track This "I'm sorry about your birds," Mary said softly, knowing what they meant to him. She didn't get it, but there was a whole patronage thing and even Mary, a saint and not a god, felt drawn and attached to the things that fell under her patronage. Even when she didn't want to. "I wouldn't mind having servants to do everything for me too, personally. Sounds great."
His tone of voice when talking about the moon god made her look at his face as they walked and she smiled at the mention of hugs, imagining it. "At least he didn't try and get into your pants?" Mary suggested, her own tone playful.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 09:28 am UTC (link) Track This He glanced aside, not knowing how to handle grief. There were a lot of emotions he didn't know what to do with. "The rest are confined to one room. They are safe." When he looked back at her he shrugged, "you can have servants. It is not hard."
Her question confused her and he paused and looked at her. "What would the purpose of that be?" He'd honestly been willing to explain why he didn't like the moon. "He cannot get in my pants. I am wearing them. I do not understand."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 09:51 am UTC (link) Track This Mary laughed at his complete misunderstanding and then tried to gather her wits again. "No, no, it doesn't mean he actually wants to be wearing your pants. It's a saying. I meant 'at least he didn't try to have sex with you.'"

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 10:23 am UTC (link) Track This Apparently he'd said something amusing so he smiled as she laughed, waiting for an explanation. When it came, he understood. "Oh. Why not just use that expression? Social rules." He sighed, wondering why everything had to be so strange.
"Are you done laughing at me now?" He was more amused then offended. He realized he was strange.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 10:26 am UTC (link) Track This "Yeah," Mary grinned. "I'm done. But someone's going to take advantage of that sweet virginal nature of yours if you don't keep up with the slang," she teased him, brushing her finger playfully along his bottom lip for a second.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 10:34 am UTC (link) Track This He let her and shrugged, "they may try." And just to prove he wasn't that innocent, that he was aware some people found his current form attractive (even if he had no idea how to react to it) he leaned close and grinned. "And then they are reminded that I bite."
He set his hands in his pockets and drew out his tin, satisfied he'd made his point. "I may not keep up with 'the slang', as you so eloquently put it, and I may not understand social rules but if someone takes advantage of me for it I will remind them what it is I eat, and what I am." He shrugged and opened the tin.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 10:40 am UTC (link) Track This Mary screwed up her nose at the tin, remembering what was inside and really not liking it. There was a difference between Mary's brand of cynical dislike of humanity that hid how much she wanted them to be all that Jesus thought they could and Huitzilopotchli murdering and eating people. But he just seemed so... well, Mary had to admit she'd let it slide at first because he was so god damned attractive but he was sort of a big softy in a weird way.
Not that she'd tell him that.
"I think that's sure to put most people off trying to have sex with you," Mary promised him. "Unless it's another person who eats hearts, in which case you'll probably live a long and... meaty life together. Besides," she smirked, lowering her voice to a whisper. "Some of us like the biting."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 10:56 am UTC (link) Track This He noted the reaction and was almost tempted to set it aside, but he was what he was and could not deny it. It didn't earn him many friends, or even people that liked him, but he'd spend his entire existence alone. Now he was forced to socialize there were parts of him he would not give up. Even if it left him with only his birds to talk to.
He opened it and nibbled on the meat inside. It was such a part of him. "Not many try." He shrugged. "Tlazolteotl eats hearts and does not try. She and I understand each other." He laughed to her whisper then glanced to the tin. "In truth there was someone I was...fond off. She was like me. Sun. She was my closest friend. I turned to my mortals to teach me. I learned that I am too violent for them. Before I could think of sex, I stopped touching others. I may eat hearts and enjoy war, but unnecessary violence is beneath me." He shrugged then, "then she left and stopped speaking to me. I scared her I assume. I do that. I stopped trying to fit into mortal society in that way. I am not like them. I never will be."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 11:07 am UTC (link) Track This His honesty touched her and Mary found herself watching him with sympathy. She'd never loved anyone beyond her Jesus and the short time they'd had together had been perfect. She found that she didn't know what to say to him now and she dropped her gaze with a sad frown.
"I'm sorry," she finally said.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 11:15 am UTC (link) Track This He shrugged. "It happens. No one really knows. Quetzalcoatl would just tell me to try again and do this face that shows he feels sorry for me. My mortals...I am their God. Weakness is bad." He sighed and decided to watch the mortals. "I do not fit in here. I was alone for an eternity, just me and my birds. Now I am here, forced to obey rules I do not understand and faced with knowing that others of my kind can fit in, but I cannot."
He sighed then, "it is not important. Come. Let us walk."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 11:17 am UTC (link) Track This Mary let the two of them walk again but she couldn't stop herself from asking just one more question. "Are you lonely?" Then she added, quickly, "I'm not one of your mortals, and I don't think emotions are weakness."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 11:25 am UTC (link) Track This That was a question he didn't often get and he looked to her, "no. You are not mine. I think if anyone calls you that, you wouldn't like it." He paused, running a hand through his hair as the thought. "I am. Lonely. I do not like feeling it. I am unused to it. When I was home, I knew my purpose. Lead my people during the day, get sacrifices and follow them to war. At night I fought against my sister's minions and laughed with Tlaloc. Now? I am here in this cold and I cannot talk to Quetzalcoatl."
He muttered something in his own language before remembering she didn't speak it. "I do not like it. At all. No one really understands me and I do not know why it bothers me." He shook his head, feeling the need to just fight something. "I should go. All this does is spark my anger and make me crave violence."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 11:30 am UTC (link) Track This "No," she said gently, taking his arm again and shaking her head. "Don't go." She looked up at him, her expression as gentle as her words had been. "I understand. Not exactly, I know, because it's different for you but-" she stopped and sighed, not having said this before to anyone. "I'm lonely too."
There were people here who were supposed to be like her, but few were. There was John who understood her feelings, but he was tied up in Patrick now. She was just Mary alone.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 11:38 am UTC (link) Track This He waited then nodded. Her words were as honest as his had been and while he'd never meant to tell anyone this he felt good telling someone who wasn't so tied up into his past. He stepped closer and went to hug her, because he assumed it was what people did when they shared bad things. He'd seen it done before, and it made sense.
This was one of those moments he really wished he got social rules.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-02-06 11:43 am UTC (link) Track This Huitzilopotchli didn't strike her as a hugger but it seemed to be happening none the less so, a little confused, she wrapped her arms around him as well for just a moment. Then, pulling back, she laid her lips against his softly, just for a moment.
She gave him a little smile as she stood in front of him once more. "If you're going to go find violence," she suggested, "can you pick evil rapists or murderers tonight?"

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-02-06 11:47 am UTC (link) Track This He'd just stood still when her lips touched his, because that he didn't know. He'd just hugged because it seemed normal. He'd seen mortals comfort each other with it. He hoped he hadn't fucked that up either.
He lowered his arms, wondering why she told him to go now when she hadn't wanted him to go before. "I will look for those tonight then."
