Jamie took another breath in and held it, for a little longer this time. His breaths were finally becoming more even and less hysterical, and he closed his eyes, sighing deeply. Opening them again, he finally looked at everyone and registered who was there. "Well that was fun," he said.
Maddy squeezed Lena's hand, leaning in close to her ear. "I can't believe that actually worked, I was Hail Mary-ing the crap out of that," she said quietly.
"Dad, no one in this room is alright," Jamie finally rasped. "But I love you too. Let's do that, because if I hear another text message beep, I might just run over my phone with the car."
