"It didn't really register to me, I think," Jamie said. "Not when I was that young, anyway. Dad made me a little star lamp, and I'd drag my crayons and Oreos in there, and just sit by myself for hours. I didn't really need anything else, and I was happy. Kids are more resilient than I think anyone really knows."
"If we were religious, we would be Catholic," Jamie deadpanned. "Since I am led to believe that they love their guilt. But you're right, in that he has massive amounts of guilt, and that it's a little silly. Because I don't know what he thinks he has to feel guilty for."
