"Respect is earned," Roxanna hissed. "And having ghosts hold me here isn't exactly a great first step, sorry to tell you."
"Well we can't all just get over it," she added. "And I'm only almost 19, of course I am. I kicked over a metaphorical rock, and found all of you squirming underneath it, like slugs. So you want to show me why you're so feared? You want to jerk around the mortal who's weaker than you? You're nothing but a bully, and I've been dealing with them my whole life."
"Roxanna," Hypnos said, coming to her side. She whipped her head to the side, glaring at him.
"And what sort of thing are you?" she asked bitterly.
"Spirit of sleep," he said calmly. "And trust me, I really am one of the nice ones."
Roxanna stared at him for a full ten seconds before saying, "All of you sound like you've gone completely off the deep end."
"Says the girl pinned to a chair by ghosts," he countered, raising an eyebrow.
"...Fair enough," she muttered.
He crouched down next to her. "You gotta calm down," he said. "Deep breaths, there you go," he said, as she did just that. "Yeah, if you're unfamiliar with our world, it can be overwhelming. Even scary as hell. But Fate has a way of making sure things happen, and I really don't believe you wound up here by accident. Hecate knows a lot of things, she can help you figure things out. Or at least help your head not feel like it's gonna explode."
