WHO: Henry Claus and Santa Claus
WHAT: Goddamn Christmas
WHEN: December 22nd
WHERE: Their house (Sen can choose NYC or Chicago)
WARNINGS: Probably not much

Since Charity herself had said she loved his father's work, he had been going over and over her words in his head. He felt his father stood for a lot of what was wrong with Christmas, but Charity seemed to think otherwise and that was a interesting perspective to think about.

Still, it was getting closer and closer to his father's big day and so Henry was trying his best to avoid the big man. They did live together, however, since Henry seemed unable to manage on his own. Running into his father was unavoidable. And when he did, he tried to put a smile on his face, even as he was clearly drinking egg nog the way it was meant to be served; with lots and lots of rum.

Despite being the most wonderful time of the year, it was insanely busy for Nick. Three days out, and everything had to be on schedule, precisely timed like clockwork. If even one thing went wrong, there could be chaos.

It was nice to be able to take a breath at home, though. Ignoring the way his iPhone kept dinging with notifications, Nick went into the kitchen and poured himself a glass of milk, topped up with Bailey's. He just needed a slight pause.

Ah, and there was Henry. His darling son, drinking egg nog from the jug, apparently. He glanced him up and down and nodded in greeting, wondering if Henry would comment on the roundness of Nick's waistline like he did every year.

All good!

Henry lowered the jug and wiped at his lips as he glanced at his father. "Is that skim milk at least?" he asked Nick, one eyebrow arched rather high.

I really need an icon of the Coca-Cola Santa for this time of year

Nick suppressed an eye roll and gave Henry a warm smile instead. "How are you this evening, son?" he said, his voice rippling with jollity. It was difficult to turn that off at this time of year. "Partaking of the festive refreshments I see! Save some for Rudolph, won't you? He does enjoy it."

YES YES!

Henry supposed that was a no.

He sighed and set the carton aside with an arched brow. He wondered if it was really for Rudolph, or if his father just didn't want him getting blind drunk. "Doing fine I suppose. I talked to Charity about you the other day."

*sigh* I can totally have a conversation and post comments at the same time, oh yes.

"Oh?" Interesting that Henry would have run into her. Nick didn't have much time himself for casual run-ins with others, nor much time for the Christian virtues. He tended to stick to the more secular side of the season himself. "And how is she? Doing well at this time of year I would imagine. People do tend to be more giving around now."

"She was fine," he said with a shrug. "She said nice things about you. Something about how you helped foster a spirit of giving."

"Ah, well yes, that is part of it." Nick frowned a little in confusion. "And you feel... what? about it?"

"It was interesting," he said in a non-committal tone. To be honest, he had never thought about it that way before. He wasn't about to say he agreed though. "I always saw it as promoting commercialism."

"Yes, you've made your opinions on that quite clear over the years," Nick said wryly, reaching to hunt in the cupboards for his stash of gingerbread. "Your mother is wondering if you will be joining us properly for Christmas this year? or if there is another retreat you are heading to?"

Henry rolled his eyes when his father went in search of something sugary no doubt. "I suppose I could make an appearance. If you would like me to."

"Your mother and I would appreciate it." Nick found the cookie jar and ravenously bit the head off a gingerbread man. "Do you want one?" he offered, holding the jar out.

Henry didn't want to disappoint his mother. Besides, being away from his parents was terrifying, but he wasn't about to admit that. "Alright, I guess I could hang around."

When his father offered him a cookie, he shook his head. "You should probably lay off them too, you know. Or at least go organic."

Nick huffed, took a second cookie from the jar, then put it back in the cupboard. "I can't help it. I get cravings. I get given a ton of them as gifts at this time of year. I've already eaten all the shortbread."

"You could give them to me and I could donate them to a children's home," Henry said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I suppose it's a good thing you can't have a heart attack."
