Who: Thalia & Will
What: Friends catching up over lunch
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: Cafe

Thalia had finally hit the second trimester of her pregnancy, and she was so glad for that. The nausea had all but gone, and she finally had more energy and didn't feel the need to nap all the time. As such, she was looking forward to having lunch with Will and catching up for a little while.

She arrived at the restaurant and was seated, sipping at iced tea as she waited for him to arrive.

It was as if Will had been buried for months. He'd lost all track of everyone else and focused on himself as artists of any kind tended to do. He'd reclused into his own world, forgetting that he could have a life outside of his home. The newest theater release of one of the world's most beloved plays had shaken him up out of hibernation.

He arrived at the location Thal had given him with a single red rose in his hand to give her. He kissed her hand then took a seat. "Forgive me, dearest I am a little late."

Thalia smiled, inhaling the fragrance of the rose before tucking it in her purse. "It's fine, Will," she assured him. "I haven't been here very long. It's nice to be out of the apartment, anyway."

He kissed her hand again as if letting it go would be the end of his world. "So tell me, what have I been missing?" He'd been gone for a while.

It was nice to be out with Will again, to have all of his attention focused on just her. She was usually happy to share, but she was still a Muse, and Greek, and a bit vain.

"Well, the biggest thing with me, is that I'm pregnant," she told him, grinning. "I'm 13 weeks along. And Terpsichore and I have moved in together, it's nice living with her."

Will's hands immediately when to his face in surprise. What a wonderful thing, even if he felt his muses were moving on without him these days. They had their own muses to keep them company, and he had to admit he missed the time he'd shared with all of them in his first life.

"Thal," he started, his eyes practically tearing up at the thought, "what a beautiful thing. Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Part of him actually wished he was the father, then he'd have an excuse to have one of them all to himself again.

"I didn't know myself until I was almost six weeks along," she replied. "And I had to tell the father, and my sisters, and then I was moving and everything was just happening all at once. I've been sleeping a lot, too, I haven't had much energy to do anything. But I'm trying to be more social, and get out and do more things."

"But I'm really happy, you know?" she went on. "I'm going to raise this baby and love it, the best way I know how."

Will had had his chance with Thal, and maybe he'd been too focused on Mel in the past to give Thal the proper attention she deserved from him. HIs comedies were as wonderful as his tragedies thanks to her. And what thanks had he given to her? He had played her as second fiddle. He could see that now and it made him feel more alone than ever.

"I'm glad," he said those tears still in his eyes, because it seemed like he had been the one to lose her. Now Thal was happy, the way she was meant to be.

For so long, Thalia had been content to be second-best, to smile and joke and not let on how she was really feeling. But it was always there, in the back of her mind. She knew she wasn't being putt first, that it was a matter of time before he'd move on again. And sure, what she and Prometheus had wasn't exclusive, but she'd known that going in. But she knew that he enjoyed their time together, and it made her happy. She didn't have to wait around for someone to notice her anymore.

She reached across the table, squeezing his hand. "Thank you, Will," she told him. "And you know, this doesn't mean we can't see each other. Don't disappear on me like that again, OK?"

Will had played Thalia as his second fiddle for a long, long time. Noticing that now was gut-wrenching. Like he had played this scene one act too late. He was happy for her, she deserved it, she deserved to smile like that again, but he that brightness wasn't for him and it did make him sad.

"I promise," he squeezed back, kissing the top of her hand again. Why was one's own happiness the pain of another?

Thalia knew when someone wasn't telling her everything. And it was prickling at her to ask him to be more honest with her, but at the end of the day, she valued his friendship too much to go poking at wounds. So instead, she smiled and picked up her menu. "Good, because I'll come and find you, at least until I'm too big to move quickly anymore," she joked.

"So, you never did tell me what you've been up to," she went on. "Still teaching?"

"Why yes, but of course. This weekend however, I plan to get inexcusably drunk and see what horrendous things they have done to my play with this new Romeo and Juliet." It was one of his favorites with Mel, and of all the times for the film to be exposed it had to be now when Mel was nowhere to be seen. Thalia also was far too pregnant to join him in this mess. He wouldn't dare ask a pregnant woman to drink, but that was what lonely men did.

"It can't be any worse than Gnomeo and Juliet," she teased. "Just make sure you're somewhere where they're not likely to throw you in jail for drunken booing." She laughed lightly into her tea.

"You know, they really need to make a movie of A Midsummer Night's Dream," she added. "I mean, yeah, there's Were The World Mine, but that's less about the play and more about the human drama. And the version from 1999, but I didn't really like that one. I want to see someone have way too much fun with Puck, OK. Make it happen, Hollywood."

"Oh that was such a horrible rendition. Do not even get me started on that monstrosity." One of his favored was Franco Zeffirelli's. It was so honest, he could appreciate it. This newest felt like it would be nothing more than a blatant rip off of that masterpiece.

He reached out with a smile, his hand clutching hers tenderly. He remembered the night they started that piece. "That's one of my favorites." He was hamming it up a bit, William had a hard time choosing pieces as a favorite because they were all a favorite. He'd also neglected her during that piece, more than a man ever should have of a Muse. It was mastery, it was beautiful and he missed all those soft glances and warm laughs they'd shared.
