Thomas hadn't had more than two drinks at once in nineteen years. In his youth, he had been impulsive and unpredictable and a lot of that went together with large amounts of alcohol and drugs. Since having a child, he had considered it his responsibility to make sure he never got out of control.
Until now. Just watching a television show, a description of dying from Huntington's had come from nowhere and the depression hit him hard. He visited his father often and saw the effects of the disease in front of him all the time. All that was waiting for him soon enough. He was still recovering from brain surgery and for what? What might be a slow and agonising death that might not be that far away? Thomas was usually optimistic, but sometimes it got hard.
Jamie was nineteen now, Thomas figured. There was no harm in heading to the pub and having a few. That was just what he did, and what he was still doing when Lena arrived home from work to find Jamie the only one home.
She knocked on Jamie's door, still wearing her stage makeup. "Hey, Jamie? It's Lena. Do you know where your dad is?" She had been on edge since he had felt strangely followed a few days previous.
