Jamie looked back at his father, one eyebrow raised. That couldn't be anything good.
"I could hear her from down the hall, she sounded terrified," he said aloud. "Whoever took her must have been severely fucked up."
Maddy, meanwhile, had managed a few sips of water and some deep breaths. She was starting to calm down, and a nurse had come in to check on her. "Doing alright, sweetie?" she asked, checking Maddy's vitals. "You gave us quite a turn a little bit ago. Pain coming back?"
"A little," Maddy said, only fibbing a bit. Her torso was starting to hurt again, but she couldn't even begin to explain her reaction to the nurse.
The nurse wrote some things down and checked her IV bag. "It's time to switch the bags anyway, I'll see about getting you some more painkillers," she promised.
"Thank you," Maddy replied, laying back down after a few more sips of water.
