Vicodin | Victor Mannich ([info]takeyourpain) wrote in [info]nevermore_logs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood: tired
Entry tags:datura, opium, vicodin

Who: Opium & Vicodin (and probably Datura too, later)
What: Reunions
When: Tuesday night
Where: Vicodin's house
Warnings: Drugs, TBD

Ever since Datura's setback, Vicodin had been caring for her the best he knew how. He'd had some help from his Tante's friends, and that had helped to make her feel more stable. She was sleeping a lot more than she had before, but she'd told him one night, over tea at 3 a.m., that it was her body's way of healing itself, and giving her mind a chance to recover.

She was sleeping now, and Vicodin was lounging in the living room, sipping at some whiskey and watching Kitchen Nightmares on TV. He was debating what to have for dinner, because he was lazy and did not feel like cooking in the slightest. A quiet night in, for once, and he was more than OK with that.

It wasn't Opium's first time in New York city, nor even the last, but she'd not been here for a few months. She'd gone near the border, securing contacts and a small base there, before visiting Afghanistan. When she'd returned, she'd gotten bored with the border town, and wanted a more lively city.

And New York was as much a center as anything. A good enough spot to start building. And she knew people there that wouldn't mind giving her a place, and others she'd enjoy getting to reconnect with.

So when she landed at Vicodin's door she grinned and knocked. Her darling would never kick her out, she was sure of that, and she wanted to do a bit of fussing. In her own way anyway.

Vicodin was about to start grumbling when the knock came at the door, but his mood did an abrupt 180 when he felt the presence on the other side of the door. He felt a grin break out over his face, and it only got wider once he opened the door.

"Mutter!" he cried, pulling her into a hug. "Come in, come in, it's good to see you. How are you?"

Happily she returned the hug, taking in the distinct taste of the chemicals in her little baby before letting go. "My little darling," happily she patted his cheeks, "all grown up. And I'm wonderful. I was hoping you have a couch. I just got back and my previous place didn't suit me anymore."

Vicodin beamed as she patted his cheeks. "Good, I'm glad," he said. "And I can do better than that, there's two spare bedrooms, you're welcome to whichever you'd like. Would you like a drink? I was going to order something for dinner, but I didn't know what."

"Something deliciously American. I've survived off Mexican and Middle Eastern food and I could use a burger. And thank you precious." She nodded as she walked into the home, finding herself already at ease. "A drink sounds amazing. I'm parched." She turned to him again, "look at you. Every time I see you I remember when you were just this little thing. You make me feel old. And proud."

She tilted her head once she was in the kitchen and took out a few balls of opium from her purse. "All for you. I have to get back to my contacts. Now what is that smell? Something else is here. Not someone I recognize right away."

He poured her a glass of whiskey and set it on the table. "There's a place that delivers late, makes the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. I'll have them bring some by." He punched the number into his phone and ordered the food.

Her words made him smile. "I think I grew up while none of us were looking, Mutter," he said. "And you'll never look old. But I hope you're proud, I've been setting up networks in the city. It was easier than I thought it'd be."

He took the balls of opium from her, careful not to drop them. "Danke," he said, smiling. "I haven't smoked in...ages, actually." He did have an antique opium pipe in a box in his bedroom, though.

Her arrival had made him completely forget about Datura sleeping upstairs. "Tante Dhatūrā is staying here," he said. "She's sleeping, the past few weeks haven't been kind to her."

She took the glass and sipped from it, reminding herself to catch up to others in this city. But family came first. "Good boy." With that she sat down and let herself relax.

"I believe it, and I better not. Not with you around," she offered proudly. "my little legal bug. They have no idea." She grinned with pride then, "look at you. Will you mind if I lean on them some until I get my contacts back. I kind of dropped out without warning."

With a scoff she set her hand over her heart, "breaking my heart little bug. Invite some friends of yours, get me settled. She wrinkled her nose. She had respect for Datura, but only so much. The old drug hadn't gone with the times. "well maybe she should adapt better. We all had to."

"They really don't," he agreed. "And some of the so-called 'medical professionals are the biggest addicts I've ever seen. And they're all too eager to keep me supplied. Anything for their fix."

"I'll have them come round and introduce you," he offered. "It happens, we move around when it suits us. You'll be up and running in no time."

He laughed. "If it makes you feel better, I've got a pipe upstairs, but there hasn't been any opium worth buying in the city, not for a while. But I think I know a few people who might be interested."

"She was doing quite well, then someone got inside her head and moved all the furniture around," he answered. His grin was sharp. "I have a bounty out on the thing's head. The only family I have in the city are her, and now you. Nicht mit meiner Familie zu ficken."

"I'll see what I can do," she offered graciously. She might scoff at Datura and roll her eyes, but at the end of the day there weren't many non synthetic Drugs left. And it was family. Her little Vicodin was right. No one fucked with family.

"And you won't be alone long. Others will come." She chuckled then, "darling how do you think I got you? Medical professionals always believe you when you tell them it'll be better in the long run, or with less side effects. Don't worry little bug, at the end of the day you'll have them on their knees."

"You're so good to me little bug. And I'll fix that right away. The war is just causing so much unnecessary fuss. Then again, soldiers love their fix. It balances out. For every field they burn, another one grows. And they're rooting out the silly fundamentalists who wanted to cut into my profits." She rolled her eyes, "like that has ever worked. And I know a few who I can lean on. I ought to check up on some old friends too."

She patted her lap, "come here little bug and tell me what I've missed besides someone making a grave mistake with messing with family. Are you seeing anyone I need to threaten to treat you right?"

Really, that was all he could ask for, the peace kept in his house. "Danke, Mutter," he replied. The doorbell rang, and he paid the driver and came back with their burgers.

"I know, but until that day, I am content," he said, popping a few fries into his mouth. He finished them, grinning. "They're trying to dilute me, they don't realize that will just make people take more. In the end, it's all the same." He laughed. "Not sure if you meant that literally or figuratively, but both have happened, and I'm sure it'll keep up, either way, for a good long while."

"I don't think they realize that we will never go away," he told her, taking a bite of his burger. Not you, not me, none of us. Addicts will get their fix one way or another."

He sat down next to, resting his head on her shoulder. "We had Henbell living with us for a while, but she's off following a different path. So is Belladonna, and maybe they'll come back, but I'm not worried about them in the meantime. Mostly, I'm running my business and making sure things go smoothly."

He smiled. "No, there's no one, really. They come home with me, and they're gone in the morning. Which is fine, really."

She waved her hand, "it's family. Even if she needs to learn adaptation. I had to, we all did It's just the way of life. People find reasons to deny your users, so you find loopholes."

"Silly mortals. I remember that. Then Heroin came, and you and your siblings. I just laughed and kissed your head and told you how to do it. That's the very worst you can expect little bug, a little one to look after. The more people tell us no, the more they'll want us. Danger is what draws them, we keep them hooked." She grinned, "both."

She picked at the food, never very hungry. But she hadn't eaten in a few days so she could eat some fries. "Let them deny all they want little bug." Smiling she stroked his hair. "It'd be better for them if they adapted. Sometimes I feel like the only organic drug that managed to do it right."

She nodded, "well if you find a mortal make sure they use alright little bug. You keep them longer then. Other gods are finicky, outside of the family especially. Speaking of which, who all lives here now? Besides the one who messed with us, we have any concerns?"

"Loopholes are some of my favorite things," he agreed. "She's managed to adapt enough to find power to change her face, so I suppose we'll see."

He grinned. "It feels like only a few years ago, waking up and not knowing what to do beyond soothe pain. And then they just wanted more and more, they liked the no pain, the cloud they felt like they were on." He shrugged, smirking slightly. "They'll pay what they owe, one way or another. They always do."

"You may very well be," he agreed, not out of any malice toward his absent aunts, but because he agreed. "You're an example of how to survive and endure."

"I had one, for a little while," he admitted. "And then she just disappeared. I went looking and couldn't find a trace. Most likely she moved elsewhere. If I ever find another one, they're going to be well and hooked before too long."

He tipped his head back, thinking. "It would be easier to list who didn't live here, I think. Greeks, Norse, Egyptians, creatures who crawled out of stories, men out of history and legend. In terms of power, there's very few who can compete. A few of the New ones are quite powerful, but I don't bother them, and they don't bother me."

"What she needs to do is find a medical professional who is bored and has time on their hands. Let them dilute her. Then again, most people eat her so maybe she ought to figure that out too."

Smiling she patted his cheeks, "you were so tiny and adorable. Now you're just adorable. And so smart too. My little bug, growing like a weed." She chuckled, "good boy, show them who's boss." She clapped her hands then, "oh do let me show anyone who tells me I don't know what I'm doing because I'm currently female. I won't kill them, promise. I always like doing that. I love sexism. It lets me have fun."

"Silly mortals. Don't worry little bug. If that's what you want I'll help you. I won't deny my little bug a thing." Smiling she kissed him before laughing, "oh the old ones are fun." She shook her head, "make ties. Alliances. Good to have when things go sour."

"I'm sure I can find someone like that," Vicodin said, drumming his fingers on the table. "Gods know I know enough doctors."

"I grew up fast," he agreed. "Good thing I stayed adorable." He laughed. "I have to, or they start to think they can walk all over me. And I can't have that."

"Anyone who thinks you don't know what you're doing is a fool," he said firmly. "By all means, show them. I'm certainly not stopping you."

He shrugged, a small smile on his face. "I'm pretty happy with what I've got right now, but thank you. Maybe once things are more solidified. Right now the business takes up the majority of my time."

She patted his cheeks again, "you're a good boy, looking after your family so. Never let anyone say differently. I'll do what I can on my side. I'll talk to her too. She'll need a social circle."

She chuckled, "you got that from me. And so smart." She smirked, "see but they're fooled. A pretty flower they see, but not the underlying claws. I had to deal with military from both sides of that war who were fooled. It amuses me in Afghanistan."

She nodded, "I won't push but you introduce me when you get serious little bug. I have to make sure they're good enough for my little bug."

"Agreed," he said. "Once she's feeling better, and I don't think it'll be to much longer, I'm going to try and get her out more. She's got a few friends, but she can always do with more, I think."

"But of course," he agreed, smiling. "I run things the way they should be run, and you have to be both smart and ruthless, or things fall apart. And they can fall in line or get out of my way."

"They they deserve to be fooled," he shrugged. "They don't bother to look closer. They disregarded me at first because I look so young. You show them that you're smarter than they are, and by the time they realize you've gotten one over on them, it's too late."

"I will," he promised. "We can do a family dinner, and if that doesn't send them running, they'll be worth keeping around." He grinned.

She nodded, "make sure she goes out into the sun. I'll drag her out tomorrow. Can't stay inside all the time. Summer's an organic's best friend. She ought to take advantage of that."

She smiled at him, "you make me proud. You're doing good too. It makes me worry less. And of course they never look. All the fools it makes them."

"Good boy." She didn't understand it, but if her little bug wanted someone to stick around she'd tie them down herself if it needed to be done. "Let's go out too, after we put Datura in the sun. I need more things and you can introduce me to your people."

"I'll help," he said with a smile. "She likes going out in the sun, I think she needs to go out and bask in it again."

He beamed. "I'm glad," he told her. "It's been strange, not having you around. But hopefully you won't have to worry about me." He nodded. "And they end up suffering for it."

"We can do that," he agreed. "Let's do it by borough, I think, or we'll be riding the train or in cabs all day."

Smiling she ran her fingers through Vicodin's hair. "No sense in sulking about getting old and not used a lot. Best to do something about it." She grinned, "And I'll be around plenty little bug. Don't worry about that."

She nodded, "I can agree with that, although the stories are usually worth it. Do you have any good weapon suppliers by the way? I need some new ones."

He sighed, leaning into her touch like a happy cat. "I think I'm going to like having you around," he replied.

He hummed as he thought about it. "One in Brooklyn, and there's another in Queens. It depends on what sort of things you want, one specializes in handguns, the other has the higher-powered weapons, assault rifles and the like."

Smiling she continued running her fingers through his hair, allowing a bit of herself to fill the air. "I like being here little bug, you know that."

"Something small. I won't need anything big until I get my own crew." She kissed the side of his head, "And I'll give you ten percent of the profits, indefinitely. Because you're my little bug and you're being such a good boy. And if you need anything you let me know okay?"
