"I definitely have some badass in me," Serenity acknowledged. "And your father did too, but we're making it sound like he was always some tough jerk."
"That's all I really remember," Thomas laughed.
"I wouldn't have dated you if you were always like that. Jamie, when he asked me out the first time he had a bouquet of flowers which he had obviously picked from the school garden. They still had roots and dirt on them, but it was so endearing, I had to say yes. Whenever we hung out with his horrible friends he would try to be tough like they were but the moment one of them said something rude to me he would step right in and shut them down.
"And I remember being terrified of telling him I was pregnant because I knew some guys would say it was a lie or decide the girl had been cheating on him or...hell...consider it all the girl's fault. He wasn't like that at all though. He was freaking out, but he hugged me and told me he was there for me."
Thomas just looked down at his hands, but he had a small and reflective smile on his face.
