"Jesus, I'm sorry," Thomas breathed. He pulled his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around them, sort of like he was shielding himself from everything else. "It was a shitty thing to even think about doing. But I love you."
He hated that he had given Jamie a reason to be afraid of him as well. "I used to be someone who yelled. All the time. I didn't want you to have to grow up with a father like that though, so I stopped. And I'm sorry you had to experience even a second of it." When Thomas had been younger, his temper had been far worse than what he had just screamed at Serenity about. At least when he had yelled at Serenity, there was an actual reason for it. It wasn't just because his mother wanted him to stop doing drugs, and Thomas thought that was 'lame'.
"This whole time I thought she was a kid too, but it turns out she was some thirty-year-old goddess who abandoned us. She was older and she had money and she left and it made me really...really angry."
Resting his chin on his knees he asked worriedly, "what...uhm...what else did you hear me say?" He was quite worried Jamie had heard not only the things he had done for money and going hungry, but he was also sure he may have described his time with Jamie as 'horrible', which he hadn't meant at all. It had just come out.
