WHO: Briseis & Patroclus
WHEN: In the middle of Sunday night
WHERE: Their apartment
WHAT: Nightmares and sleepiness. (Originally posted by Briseis)
Briseis was having trouble remembering the last time she'd slept well. It must have just been a few months ago but it honestly felt like forever. She was used to occasional nightmares - she had let the sort of life that demanded that as payment - but this nightly waking was too much.
Tonight she was sitting in the kitchen, nursing a cup of green tea, staring at the steam and blinking sluggishly. All she wanted was to sleep, but every time she closed her eyes there was something there. Some of it made sense. Some of it was her past and her memories, but some of it seemed to come from nowhere.
All Briseis knew for sure was that she was tired down to her very bones and trying not to take it out on her friends and clients. Sometimes that felt harder than others, and Briseis felt like she was snapping at the smallest things.
She didn't even notice Patroclus was there until he was right beside her, and she tried to work out of he'd even said anything. "Hi," she said to him. "What are you doing up?"
"Checking on you," he admitted, running his fingers through her hair. He was worried about her. He saw how she was looking more and more tired and he hated seeing the weariness on her face. "I heard sounds from the kitchen." Whether Briseis or Deirdre, Patroclus wanted to be there for his housemates if they needed companionship.
"Can I get you anything?"
Briseis smiled sleepily up at Patroclus, resting her head against him for a moment and closing her eyes. Opening them again was difficult and she really didn't want to. "I am so tired, Pat," she admitted. "So fucking tired. But every time I close my eyes-" she shook her head and sat up straighter, running her fingers through her hair. "I feel like I'm going crazy here."
"Come on," Patroclus said soothingly, pulling Briseis up and then scooping her into his arms. "We're going to the sofa and you are going to lie down. I'll be right with you. Do you want to tell me what you see when you close your eyes?"
"Some of it's memories," Briseis told him, letting him lift her and move her without arguing about it. She was happy just to be with someone. "But a lot of it is just... stupid. Ridiculous things when I'm awake but you know how nightmares feel." She curled up against him on the sofa, letting her eyes close.
"I do," he nodded. He had nightmare memories of the Trojan war. He also had a recurring nightmare that Aphrodite came after him and made his dick hard for two weeks again. Those were horrible dreams and he inevitably woke up hard as well, so it wasn't difficult to know why he dreamt about that often.
Patroclus held her close and he pulled a blanket up over her. "Well I'm with you now, and I'm going to stay with you all night. You can talk or anything, until you fall asleep. And when you do, I'll stay awake and make sure nothing hurts you."
