He was terrible with people, he knew that. Mortals escaped him, and he didn't know how to fit in their society, but he'd spend long years figuring his wife out. And he could tell when she was trying just a bit too hard, and obviously not as okay as she said she was.
Not wanting her to regret missing much he'd had the rest packed up and paid for it.
