Mairead had finished her meal quite early and Patrick had silently pushed the rest of his towards her, expecting a protest. None came. She simply pulled his plate over and polished that off too. As she had, Patrick had gone to get himself something else to eat and by the time he returned to the table, Clio had spoken up.
"My parents are shit," Mairead hissed. She didn't usually swear and that caught Patrick off-guard.
"You can talk to us," Patrick soothed.
Mairead pulled in a shaky breath and shook her head before leaning forward to rest her forehead on the table.
