Who: Liam the Leprechaun and Will [NPC]
What: Utter silliness
When: Tuesday morning
Where: Liam's apartment
Will had been living with Liam for months now and despite Liam thinking he would never be used to it, they two of them had fallen into a comfortable routine. Liam made him breakfast and drove him to school. He wasn't the best at supporting Will emotionally, but he tried. He asked about Will's day. He tried to understand what Will was talking about.
He had been listening to popular music as much as he could, because that was apparently what kids were in to these days and he wanted to be able to understand what Will was on about.
So when Will walked in to the kitchen expecting breakfast and he found Liam singing, he had to freeze for a moment and just listen.
Liam was standing over the blender, dropping ice cream in and singing, jaunty and off-key,
"My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and they're like it's better than yours, damn right, it's better than yours-"
Will cleared his throat.
Liam turned and he smiled widely at Will. "Good morning! Milkshake, see! Do you want some? My milkshake is better than anyone's."
Will had learned not to laugh, but it was hard going sometimes. "Uhm...Liam? That song isn't really about milkshakes."
"What? Yes it is! My milkshake brings-"
"Yes, I know the words! It's about- Never mind. What kind are you making?" he said, taking a seat at the table.
"Strawberry," Liam said, plopping the lid on the top of the blender and turning it on. He did as he always did when he blended things and he squealed "wheeeeeeee" the entire time the blender was on. When the milkshake was done, he poured two glasses and he sat down at the table with Liam. "Have you thought about visiting your dad?"
Alastair lived just next door, but Will hadn't seem him since October. Since the night Alastair had hit him. Liam had tried to explain that Alastair was under the influence of Absinthe, which meant that he might see things or do things he would normally do, but Will has having none of it. "I don't want to," he said firmly. "I have nothing to say to him."
Liam didn't press. He wouldn't even know where to begin. "Okay. Drink your milkshake and then I'll take you to school."
Maybe if he expected Will to speak to his father again, Liam should speak to Alastair first. Someone had to break the silence. It should be him. Liam had spent centuries acting like a carefree child and over the last few months he had been taking more and more responsibility. He was still a leprechaun and so he was still selfish first and everything else second, but he cared about Will because Will was fun and made him smile. And he missed Alastair.
So Liam would try. But not today. "Hey, Will, what other songs sound like they are about something and are actually about something else?"
Will looked up from his milkshake and he laughed. "Uh...that could take years to explain. And I am making toast." He jumped up from the table and headed to the toaster. "Do you want some?"
"Pop-Tarts!" Liam said excitedly and Will grinned.
"Why am I not surprised. Pop-Tarts for the leprechaun." There was a pause as Will popped his toast into the machine and pressed the lever downward. Then he smiled again. "I like it when you sing, Liam. Even if you don't know what you're singing about." Will just liked being in a house where people sounded and acted happy.
"I'll keep it in mind," Liam promised.
