Who: Uriel, Eve
Where: Eve's daycare
When: Valentine's Day!
What: Awkward, angelic love

Uriel viewed Valentine's Day with a kind of bemused tolerance most years. That's why he was confused by his own restlessness this year. It was a bit antisocial to spend the day completely alone, wasn't it? And he was often told that he should get out more. And it had been too long since he had visited Eve.

Yes. All perfectly rational.

He touched down in the alley outside of Eve's daycare and knocked hesitantly on the front door. He wasn't sure if the children were still here. He would survive, if they were. Humans number 3 and 4 hadn't been so bad. Even if 3 had been fond of pulling his feathers.

Eve had been distracted all day, and in the end had given most of the care of the children to her coworker. She wanted to see Uriel and talk to him, but she had no idea how to do that besides calling for him. And that may end poorly.

But then she suddenly felt him and grinned, opening the door with a smile. "Uriel. Thank God. I'm so glad to see you."

Uriel brightened immediately. Eve was not usually so visibly glad to see him.

"Me too! Glad to see you, that is. I was wondering, if you aren't tending to the small humans, would you like to have lunch?"

She glanced back and for the first time felt her charges would be alright. They had a minimal amount of them, and her coworker was very good. And she did want to have lunch with Uriel. "I'd like that. Where would you like to go?"

"...I don't know," Uriel said, realizing that he didn't actually go out to eat very often. He laughed. "Any suggestions?"

"A few," she gave him a soft smile before pulling her coat on and calling to her coworker she was going out for lunch. "There's a nice little place if that suits you."

"Lead the way," Uriel said, giving an awkward wave to Eve's coworker. He fell into step beside Eve. "It's unfortunate that we don't eat together more often."

"It is, we should do it more. I miss talking to you and spending time with you." With a smile she ducked his head. It wasn't really his fault. Her belief was to be second.

"Yes, it's more difficult to do since I can't land on your house anymore," Uriel reflected. "Having a human job also interferes with that."

"Not knowing where it is might help too." She grinned to him, "I'll show you after lunch." She motioned to a little diner not far off. "I like the coffee there, if it's alright?"

Uriel is so smooth

Uriel nodded an affirmative, and they went inside.

"Is it all right if I buy?" Uriel asked once they'd sat down. "That's what humans do, right?"

Like water Uriel, like water XD

Chuckling she nodded and folded her coat up. "Yes. I do believe that is what humans do. You should try the pancakes here. They're fairly good."

"Oh, pancakes!" Uriel said, pleased at the thought. He did rather like pancakes. "Your species is very good at breakfast foods. Superior at breakfast foods, really."

He was coming to find that he didn't know how to compliment someone.

Rather poorly :P

She had to smile to his rather adorable comments and went to set her hand over his. "I figured you would approve. And yes I imagine we've gotten quite good at that. I'll make you mine sometime."

He smiled. "I would like that. I miss spending time with you." He cleared his throat, suddenly feeling very awkward. "And also your family."

She squeezed his hand. "I miss spending time with you too. The boys, they manage." The less said about Adam the better.

Oh, she was touching his hand. That was very nice.

"They would manage better with you there to keep them completely out of trouble," Uriel tsked. "You were always the most sensible of them."

She raised an eyebrow but didn't argue. Her belief was ingrained in her, so she kept her tongue. "Unfortunately, they are grown up now. They make their choices and live their lives."

A waitress arrived to take their order, and Uriel ordered a massive stack of pancakes. Delicious pancakes.

"I am always impressed with how you handled your family," Uriel said. He smiled. "I don't know that I could have dealt with children so often. They confuse me very much."

"You aren't a parent." She offered with a smile. "And they were everything, well, after. Finding out about pregnancy was fun though. I taught I was dying when I delivered Cain. I had no idea what was happening." She made a face. "Sorry that's probably gross to hear."

"No, I also thought you were dying," Uriel said, wincing at the memory. "And even when Raphael assured us that you were not, I was still fairly sure you were."

"No, I'm sorry to bring it up," Uriel said, recalling far too late that he had a tendency towards bluntness. "Um. Anyway, how is the daycare going? Are the small children behaving?"

"You were being nice. I appreciate it. Not many would wonder." She released his hand once the food arrived, not wanting to cling either. "It's going very well. And they are children. Sometimes they do, sometimes they do not."

She was very beautiful, Uriel observed, even doing something as mundane as reaching for the silverware. He usually did not notice beauty in humans, since it did not compare to the sun or the stars or a well-written book. But Eve was beautiful, and it took him a moment to realize he was staring. Blushing, he busied himself pouring syrup on his pancakes.

"Thank you for coming out with me."
