"Hey," Thomas ran his fingers through Jamie's hair to try to smooth it. "I am sure that's frustrating but you need to take care of yourself, okay. I'll make you something and then we can walk."
He rose to find something for Jamie to eat, though he could still see his son on the sofa thanks to the open plan kitchen. "You know, when I first started studying I didn't take very good care of myself and I lost too much weight and my hair started falling out. Your grandma came and took you to Florida for two weeks so I could 'get my self together'. We had a big fight about it because I didn't want her to take you." It had always been his greatest fear that someone would decide he was unfit to raise his son and take him away.
