WHO: Greed & Zoe w/NPC Scott
WHEN: January 24th
WHERE: Restaurant, diner, park
WHAT: Actual dates and non-dates
WARNING: Sins threatening mortals that date their toasters
A week and a half since the first disastrous had gone by and Zoe continued dating. Well, she tried. Greed was playing the new game of 'Ruin Zoe's Dating Life' and he was awfully good at it. He'd ruined two other dates just like the first and this was her fourth date. She hadn't planned on dating so many back to back but she hadn't thought she'd need to! And she wasn't about to give up and let Greed be giddy over it.
She'd told him she better not see him on this date or else she wouldn't speak to him for a year and there was no way she'd go see Wicked with him (which they had tickets for soon). She didn't trust him of course but the guy had managed to pick her up (in a snazzy car while wearing a snazzy outfit) and they'd arrived at the restaurant and still no sign of Greed. Her date, Scott, was some sort of model or race car driver or something else that Zoe didn't entirely believe but he was handsome beyond belief and had asked her out. Her policy these days was she was going to say no to no one. Come one, come all.
Scott wore a gold watch and a thin gold bracelet on his wrist, going on about the riviera while Zoe scanned the restaurant quickly again after they sat down. She looked startled when he took her hand and kissed it, "Not boring you, am I?" he asked with a smile that suggested such a thing was preposterous.
------
Despite all his attempts to derail her dates she kept going on them. Most of these boys were lucky to see her again. They were easy to frighten away or give the wrong impression. Zoe wasn't the girl they thought she was---she wasn't theirs.
He didn't think Zoe got the idea or not that as Greed he'd stamped her. Influence aside, he saw he had a hard time giving in to this friends deal. He was purposely showing her these pricks didn't have a chance.
This one though, the one she had picked tonight was a good looking one. He dressed nice, had the fancy car. Even so, Greed had crashed dinner dates before.
He sat at a nearby table, off in the corner where she couldn't see, dressed in the waiters attire with a fake nameplate. He was ready to see if this guy was a team player.
------
Zoe wasn't a girl about flash, she was about substance and she was relatively sure that things with Scott would go nowhere but he was handsome and it was a free dinner so who was she to say no. Besides, she took a chance on Greed and it turned out there was more to him than meets the eye.
The meals been served and Scott told Zoe to try some of his. Zoe picked up her fork to get a piece but Scott raised his hand to stop her. Instead, he cut a small piece with his fork and held it up to her mouth with a smile.
------
Oh good god this one was laying on the charm thick. It was so staged. Showing off his money. He wanted so much to make the guy flaunt even more then coo that Zoe fit the bill. That would be hilarious.
Instead he huffed a fluff of hair out of his face and watched her reaction. When she excused herself then he'd take a flying leap.
-------
Zoe just looked at Scott and was taken by surprise. She seemed a little amused as she pursed her lips and titled her head as if to go okay... but she took the offered forkful and nodded, it was tasty. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and the meal continued, when she was finished, she excused herself to the ladies room. Scott snappped his fingers in the air for a waiter, he wanted to look at a dessert menu.
------
The moment her back was turned and the table's waiter started over, Greed jumped up flagging down the man and grabbing his water pitcher. "I'll get this one!" He insisted, pushing the man out of the way.
"Sir can I get you anything?" Greed asked filling up the unnamed date's glass. Before the man could answer Greed shoved the menu in his face. "Nice girl. Real pretty. Drop her after the meal or I'll skin you alive." He grinned wide. "Dessert?" He asked after having thrown out a verbal threat in between. He hooked a finger around the man's gold bracelet while he looked over his menu, tugging it loose and into his pocket.
"Excuse me?" Greed pointed to the double chocolate fudge cake on the menu. "I'll hang you by your tie and stuff you in the trunk of your own car" his voice was so low it sounded possessed "---the cake is fabulous!" He gave the guy a wink.
------
Scott said something muffled and surprised when the menu was shoved in his face. Oh my God, was this guy a serial killer? He was too pretty to die! But maybe he wasn't hearing him right, you know what fuck it, he didn't want to risk it. The chick was cute but she wasn't that cute. Zoe was making her way back to the table and Greed scooted before she got there.
She smiled at Scott, "So you were saying about dessert..?" Scott looked frazzled and shook his head, "You know I got an early morning, so how about a rain check?" he stood up before Zoe could even sit down, taking out his wallet and throwing some bills on the table. Zoe was surprised as he took her by the arm and practically pushed her out of the restaurant. They waited at the front of the restaurant for the valet to bring his car. Scott still had her arm, running his hand up and down it, saying something softly to her, he'd moved his body closer and anybody could see he was contemplating kissing her.
------
Greed turned sharply, his back facing the moment Zoe stepped back into view. He tip-toed his way out of sight before she could realize he was there.
He thought the guy would leave Zoe there with the bill, but he surprised Greed. If he actually took the girl home he was more bold than he thought.
Greed stripped off his nametag and waist apron heading round to his car parked out back. It was the scene out front that turned his face sour.
-------
Scott's smarmy smile was back, Greed momentarily forgotten as he leaned in closer to Zoe, his car arriving in the background. He was all charm again until his eyes landed on Greed and he froze. Not moving away, not moving forward. Unsure if he had imagined the crazy waiter or...
------
That was a worthy enough scene to run over with his car. Greed pointed his fingers towards his eyes than out at Scott with that 'I'm watching you' glare. Yeah, that's right, fancy twig would be mowed down like grass by his own car.
Now the guy was stepping up a little. Greed was ready to see where he went next. He zipped out of view again.
------
Scott had a bead of sweat that was traveling down his temple and he suddenly looked scared. Zoe turned around to look behind her but didn't see anyone there. Before she could ask if he was okay, he literally shoved her away from him, "Uh did I mention I have an early morning? You don't mind taking a cab, right?" he stuffed a five dollar bill in her hand, hopped in his car and drove away leaving an open mouthed Zoe staring after him on the sidewalk.
She sighed and started walking, there was no way five dollars would be enough to get her home so you know what screw it. There was a diner down the block and she went there. She slid into a booth and held up the five dollar bill, "However much ice cream this will buy." she wasn't upset or angry... she just seemed blue.
------
In the background Greed poked his head back around the building. The guy wasn't even going to take her home? How rude. And five bucks? He would at least have given twenty. They guy would find within the next fifteen minutes that his nice car stereo unit had been hacked.
It was going to sound great in Greed's car once it was all installed.
He followed Zoe from a distance for a time before parking across the street, slapping his cheeks to look like he'd been walking around for a while. The cold air even blew out of his mouth like smoke.
"Zoe?" Greed called out from a distance. She looked sad. Perfect.
-------
As it was, this was NY and five bucks didn't buy much. Her coat was also not thick enough to keep her warm from the growing night's chill. She was supposed to have been in a car, ugh. Next time, no matter what, be prepared to camp out. She looked around when she heard her name and her eyes landed on Greed. But she wasn't mad, in fact, the corners of her lips turned up a little at just seeing him. She stopped walking so he could come over to her, "Coincidence or are you stalking me?" she asked only half serious. She'd noticed 'what are you doing here' was the number one phrase she seemed to say to him.
------
"Hmmm what do you think?" He threw her a quirky grin, dipping his finger in the top of her ice cream for a taste. "That's all you got?" Her cone looked so tiny, it was kind of insulting.
Awkward run-in was avoided. He was getting quite good at diverting her dates.
"Out for ice cream on this side of town?"
------
Zoe narrowed her eyes at him with a smile, "I think you stalked me." she put an arm around his waist for a brief moment, "But I'm glad."
She pouted a little, making a face when he dipped his finger in her ice cream, "Oh gross.. I don't know where your finger has been." she handed him the tiny cone. "Well my cheap date dumped me. He didn't give me more, I had to have enough change to take the bus."
------
Greed took the cone with another lick---and a bite. His own arm settled on her waist steering her back towards the ice cream shop. "Let's get you a bigger cone." She couldn't turn down ice cream which meant she wouldn't turn down him. Score.
"Did he make you pay for the meal?"
------
It was easy to fall into this casual going out for ice cream with Greed thing. It just seemed natural. She frowned with a smile, "Or A cone.. since you took mine." she gestured to him nomming on her cone.
"No, thankfully he didn't otherwise I'd be stuck washing dishes." she wrinkled her nose, "He was weird."
------
He pushed her inside, gesturing to all the flavors. "Two waffle cones," Greed said putting up two fingers at the server. His eyes were already getting wide at all the flavors. Since returning from Kansas his stomach had turned into a bottomless pit.
"You keep going out with such pricks." It was great, it made him look good.
------
Zoe picked mint'n chip and rocky road with extra cherries and whipped cream. It'd been a hard night. She smiled at Greed, "Thomas wasn't a prick. You ruined that for me though." she didn't seem too upset, she knew it wouldn't go anywhere with him, there was no spark. "What about you? Dating anyone?" she casually asked.
------
"Oooh mint. Good one." He pointed out at least four flavors in bowl waffle cone. It was the best way to enjoy the flavors.
"Which one was this one? Blane, Thomas or wait was it Seth?" He was purposefully forgetting names. "Got your fill now?"
He'd just taken a big bite of cream. "Me? Are you really asking me that?"
-------
Zoe picked up a cherry and happily ate it. She gave him a smile while narrowing her eyes, "Scott. And got my fill of what?"
She nodded seriously, "Uh yeah, we're friends. We always discuss, without me wanting to, my dating life. All tragic week and a half of it. We never talk about yours." not that she wanted to hear about him with another girl but she had to get used to the idea so why not start now.
------
"Sounds like a prick. Scott? So....bland." He took another big bite of ice cream which quickly soared through his head in the inevitable brain freeze. His reaction was a quick jerk of his hand, palm slapping into his forehead until the light pain subsided. "Aren't you done going through the circus? He paused in his step, "did you sleep with any of them?" A ridiculous question considering they'd dropped her right at her door or turned tail before the dates were over.
"What? No. I don't date."
------
Zoe covered her mouth with her hand to hide her laughter but her eyes were sparkling as she looked at Greed try to cure his brain freeze. "Stop before you give yourself brain damage," she said with a laugh, "You need whatevers left in there." she rubbed the side of his head.
"I don't know.. I'd told myself if Scott didn't work out then I'd give this... other guy one more try." her lashes lowered when she said that and then she wrinkled her nose, "That's none of your business. But no, I didn't, I don't think they really wanted to. Most of them couldn't get away fast enough."
"You dated me. So you know how. I thought you wanted a girlfriend?" she licked her ice cream and she always figured he just wanted the friend/girlfriend thing, it didn't matter who filled the role.
------
Greed side-eyed her with a very disgruntled face, teeth seething until the cold faded. He eyed his large cup and dived in for another bite. The cold slapped him again only this time he started to hop up and down.
"Bet you won't be dreaming about him in bed tonight." If she thought he would ever let that go, she was mistaken. It was still going to turn her cheeks neon pink.
"What you think I wouldn't care who was at the other end of that title? I told you in the beginning I don't do relationships. You were different." Unlike Scott, he wasn't delivering a line.
------
Zoe laughed again, "Would you..." she put a hand on his chest to stop his bouncing and then picked up his spoon and showed it to him. She dug it into the ice cream but only took a decent mouthful that wouldn't make him writhe around in pain after eating it. She held it out to him as if to say try that on for size.
Her cheeks turned pink when he mentioned the nefarious dream, "I'm going to choose to ignore you." she looked at him with a soft smile and shook her head, "Only because you gave me a chance. Any girl would be lucky to have you, just you know," she gave a shrug of her shoulders, "Be yourself." she grinned and wrinkled her nose, "But not too much."
------
His eyes followed her hand all around in circles until she poked the spoon towards his mouth. "That's hardly a taste," his bottom lip puckered out so far she could have flicked it with her finger. Greed took the spoon, hanging its little blue handle out of his mouth. This time his head didn't turn into the ice caps.
"Girls don't talk to me. The shake their ass, perk their boobs and buy me a drink." If he made her feel guilty--good---his plan was working.
------
Zoe didn't feel guilty in the least, "Maybe cause of the places you're trying to meet girls. Normally you don't meet life partner girls at clubs. Those are one night stands. You should show that you're interested in more than tits and ass and maybe they'll respond to that." she swirled the ice cream with her tongue to keep it in the cone.
------
His eyes rolled at the fact she was really trying to have this conversation. He was trying to get her off the topic, he wanted her, that simple. "Those are the girls I feed off of. They don't wanna know my name, other than 'be my bitch' for a night. Even my own siblings don't take me serious, Zoe." So why should he take anyone else seriously than the one person who wanted to listen?
------
Zoe gave him a 'really?' look, "They call you their bitch?" she looked like she was trying not to laugh. She smiled and touched his hand, "I think you have a very nice name."
She sighed and didn't know what to say, "I don't think your siblings know you can be serious. When I was talking about you to Wrath she was acting like I was talking about a completely different person." and her frustration with that was apparent. She didn't like that people couldn't see the person Greed was. He wasn't some.. joke or novelty or sex toy.
------
"Sometimes they do. Some women like to dominate. It's like letting a kitten become a tiger." He made a silent rawr face. "We've already established I have two names."
Greed held up his pointer finger after having another spoonfull of ice cream thrust in his mouth. "When you talked with Wrath? Did you have a sleepover?" She met his sister without him? He felt so betrayed.
-------
Zoe gave him a look, "And you like to be dominated...?" she shook her head, "Why am I asking these things.. moving on."
She nodded, not seeing the problem, "Actually yeah we did. She wore cute PJ's, spent the night, we talked and ate junk food." she didn't see why she couldn't be friends with her ex-boyfriend's sister, she was friends with Greed, wasn't she? She raised her brows a little, "That's okay... right?"
-------
"Sometimes...." He said with a little squeak. It was fun. Lust had taught him all sorts of ways to enjoy a situation. Pain and pleasure were a pretty constant stream in her approach. Sometimes it was good to give back just as hard---now he was just curious---"how about you?" That was his gentle way of re-approaching the dream she would not talk about.
"It's a little weird!" He insisted, "especially since I wasn't invited."
------
Zoe's cheeks had a light pink in them as she slowly grinned. But when he asked about her, she licked the ice cream and shrugged with a smile. She wasn't going to say anything on it.
"Well it's a sleepover for girls. And I've seen you naked. You're a guy. Instantly banned from sleepovers."
------
"That must mean you're secretly a tiger, though you look too shy to dominate." He threw her a wink, finishing off his ice cream before she could bite down into her cone.
"I'm offended!" Greed mocked a gasp. "What all did you say about me for Wrath to be surprised?" Wrath was supposed to build him up, it appeared Zoe did that on her own.
------
Zoe was a little offended even if it was the truth but she couldn't let it go because it was too perfect a set up. She leaned in close to him, "You know my dream?" her eyes wandered to the side for a moment, "I wasn't blushing over the things you were doing to me." her gaze settled back on his and she raised her brows and gave him a look that showed it was actually quite the reverse.
She licked her cone and said, "Oh well first I said none of your business followed by sha right I'm not telling you anything."
------
His breath hitched a little, looking down at her through thick lashes. Now that just made it a little more interesting. By the pink that still lapped her cheeks she was telling the truth. "Is that so?" He tossed aside his ice cream bowl, tongue licking his lips. "So that means you were on top." He felt like Sherlock Holmes opening up a new piece to the puzzle that was Zoe.
"But you said she was shocked by what you said." He nudged her. "That must mean you were praising me." It was adorable when she built him up.
------
She grinned, "Or I'm really talented." she raised her brows again before laughing. Her cheeks were still pink but she liked teasing him, she'd stop. Soon.
"I wasn't praising you... she asked some questions and I answered them honestly. That's it." she'd gotten down to the cone of the ice cream but was feeling full so held it out for the human garbage disposal to finish if he wanted.
------
"Are you that lumber? I'm curious how much you could bend," he threw her a quirky smile twirling her around in a half-waltz move.
"But what did you saaaaay?" She was keeping it very tight-lipped and he wanted to know. "This is why I should have been invited." He snatched that cone quick and inhaled it before even chewing.
------
Zoe chuckled as he twirled her, "Oh look it's the end of the conversation." she tugged her hand back from him, "This is exactly why you weren't invited." nope, she wasn't budging on telling him what was said.
She smiled after he finished off the ice cream, "I should be getting home." though she had to admit she had more fun with Greed having ice cream than she had having dinner with Scott.
------
"So soon? It's not even ten o'clock." She was being an early bird it was such a shame. "Don't you want to go for a walk?" Even though the temperture was quickly declining, she would be clinging to him for warmth any minute.
------
Zoe rubbed her lips together as she looked at Greed, debating whether that was a good idea. She eventually shook her head, "I gotta take the bus back, and the creepers start showing up after 10."
------
"What? I'm insulted." He held a hand to his chest. "I have a car. It even has heat." He put his hands to her shoulders, pressing her coward. Her coat was so thin. She'd be quick to jump in his arms if she got too frigid.
-------
Zoe eyed him when he said he had his car, she could swear he looked like he'd just been wandering around when she ran into him. She sighed when he put his hands on her shoulders, "Alright... but a short walk." a shiver ripped through her the second they stepped outside. Damn night time cold weather.
------
He knew that look, but pushed her a little further. Once in that crisp air he let her lead, his arms wrapping around her shoulders as he stood behind her, following her steps without taking his arms off his prize.
------
She laughed, "You know we look ridiculous, right?" she turned her head to look at him over her shoulder. But she didn't complain too much because he was warm and it was really cold outside. "I feel like a penguin. Cold and waddling." she wasn't too familiar with this section of the city but felt safe with Greed to go exploring a little. Despite what happened with the creeper the month before, she saw he really didn't want harm to come to her and would protect her.
------
"How so? I'm nice and toasty warm. They were waddling, but he'd saved the day again. If she was going to keep going after toads like this, this would be easy. He bundled her into the sides of his coat, pressing her back against his front.
He was completely steering them away from the car.
-------
She laughed again when he bundled her up against him, "I can feel that.. Are you trying to smuggle me somewhere? Because you know the gentlemanly thing to do is to give me your coat, not try to smoosh us both in it." that was one thing that she never did with her dates. He'd spied/crashed on all four of them so far and she never laughed with those guys like she did with him.
She had no idea where the car was so had no idea they were going in a direction away from it.
------
"If I give you my coat then I'd be cold. This is more sensible." He was smuggling her. Smuggling her to himself.
They'd walked about a block when---"Oops." He grinned sheepishly, still coddling her under his coat, his chin sitting on her head. "I think the car is in the other direction."
------
"Did I just hear the word 'sensible' come out of your mouth?" she mock gasped, "I might faint. Even though your definition of it is completely warped."
"Oops I bet." she had a strong suspicion this wasn't a case of oops at all. "Hey, look at that.." she was looking further down the the street where there was a park and lights and faint music could be heard. Not thumping club music, but older music that sounded like it was from the 30's or 40's. The park had a big heated gazebo with a brass band that older couples were dancing to. Something for vetrans and their families.
------
"It makes perfect sense. Why would I give you my coat and freeze to death." That would be hard to explain to Lust. 'I just froze in the middle of the night like a fucking popsicle?'
Her eyes were twinkling again. He nudged her forward curious himself. Whatever bought him time from heading back to the car so soon.
------
She grinned when he nudged her so they could waddle forward towards the lights and music. The event seemed to be winding down, the food part of it was over and now it was just people dancing but to Zoe it looked lovely. It was families and old couples who seemed in love. The music was from days gone by and just had a sense of peace and romance to it. The scene was beautiful. She watched it with a happy sigh, leaning back into Greed's arms as she watched. Since it was for veterans, she asked him, "Have you been in any wars..?" she knew St. George had and Greed didn't seem like the type but he was always full of surprises.
-------
"I've worn a uniform before from World War II, but can't say I ever fought in a war. Pretended to." He wasn't a heroic sort, he wasn't a saint, nor was he a complete good guy. He did things for his own personal gain, not for the benefit of others---though Zoe was slowly showing him there was a difference. He wrapped his arms in tightly, his coat not quite big enough to engulf her, but he stretched to make it. After a while of watching her eyes dance with the couples, he pulled away taking her hand with his and twirling her into a dance.
-------
"You wore a uniform and pretended to fight in a war? What were you trying to get?" She didn't mind the coat wasn't big enough for her too, it wasn't designed that way but she thought it was sweet of him to try. It was kinda like the two of them, they weren't designed to be together, but they still tried. She looked at him when he pulled away and then smiled as she lowered her gaze when he twirled her into a dance.
-------
"A girl. She was a nurse. I pretended to be hurt...until I really did get shot..." though he'd injured himself to get there. "So it didn't work out so good.... but that uniform looked pretty smashing." He cheeks flushed quickly at the rush of cold air as he turned her around, dancing easily without any trips or missteps. It was obvious this was something he liked to do. One of the couples bumped into them giving a polite 'sorry' and then watched the young couple float around. Zoe still felt a little stiff. "I thought you liked dancing?" But she was cold, covered in thin layers of clothing.
-------
"Musta been some girl. And yes, I'm sure you looked amazing." she said it with a grin in a teasing voice. She shivered a little and nodded, "I do.. I'm just not dressed for it and you're way better at it than I am. The only times I've been dancing in the past few years is.. with you. A few weeks ago. So I'm out of practice." it was a little nerve wracking, there were other people around and the bump from the other couple also cause Zoe to apologize profusely. She was more focused on trying not to trip or step on his feet than she was on enjoying dancing with Greed.
-------
"I had her steal the locket hanging out of another soldier's pocket." His fancy footwork wasn't lost on her though, through small steps and turns he was showing her the way to follow his lead. "Just move with me, not against me." It seemed to be their catchphrase as Zoe was always trying to move against him. She always found her footing though, as if it were natural for them to step together and not on separate paths.
-------
"You and lockets.." since originally that's why he ha been after her as well. "I can't believe you let someone else have the fun of doing your dirty work for you." her eyes were practically glued to the ground until he told her to move with him. She raised her gaze to his baby blues and instantly misstepped, bumping into him. She closed her eyes and shook her head, "I'm not good at this." it was different when it'd been on the rooftop, it had just been the two of them and they didn't really take too many steps. Here there were people and being this close with him was bringing up all sorts of feelings and she was flustered.
-------
"---And watches, and rings and bracelets." He'd snatched one off her date pretty easy, it had almost been too simple. "My leg was bleeding at the time, I was crying over it and couldn't reach. She was handy---in more ways than one." Greed popped on a pretty white smile. Greed unhooked his hand from hers, lifting her eyes to his. "That's cause you're looking down. Look at me and not your feet." He silently mouthed 1..2...3 stepping slowly, taking her hand again and starting the whole process over again. He'd never stopped to think he was actually showing her how to dance. He'd never actually taught someone to do anything other than teaching Ava to bleed with sympathy so she could get absolutely anything she wanted. Tears and puppy eyes got one pretty far.
-------
Zoe wrinkled her nose, not wanting to hear about how the girl was handy in.. ugh, gross. As much as she wanted Greed to find happiness with someone (well most of her did, part of her would be insanely sad and jealous), she didn't want to hear about his sexual conquests. "I get flustered when I look at you.." she admitted quietly. Something about staring into his eyes made her stomach twist in knots. But she let out a breath as they began again, her fingers curling around his and she letting him lead. "I still can't believe that you know how to dance.. you seem like the only kind of dancing you'd do would be grinding in a club."
-------
"She had small hands though....quick...." he snorted shaking his head at her reaction which always made her blush. "So look behind me. At the old fart with his pants up around his man boobs. That's a pretty awesome belt he's got, and those suspenders. Turn you on a bit?" He pulled her in against him, hand rested on the small of her back. She did better when she wasn't thinking about it. "Dancing used to be considered a Sin. The puritans thought it was as bad as masturbating, so of course I would like it. It gets the adrenaline pumping." She stepped on his foot again which caused him to twitch. "Grinding is nice too, but I like a little elegance every now and then," he shook his head with a little hitch in his voice.
------
Zoe did look behind Greed at the old man and laughed softly, "Hey, one day..." the words died in her throat as she realized it wouldn't be true. That wouldn't be Greed one day because he'd never age. He was as old as dirt and still didn't look a day over 30. But that would be her one day. Time wouldn't wait for her and she'd age and she'd wind up like her grandmother who loved an immortal. Alone and brokenhearted till death would finally come for her. When Greed pulled her in close, she rested her head on his chest not out of intimacy but to get a moment to recover. Her throat had closed up and all she managed to do was nod to what he was saying.
-------
He stopped his stepping just to hold her in place and sway them side to side. He knew what she was thinking about. "Maybe I shouldn't have given him to you as a focal point," he laughed but she didn't. It kind of killed the moment but he didn't like her silence. It was too deafening. Both arms now held her in place. It was the perfect picture of a young couple together, the other older generation around them could see it, but they had no idea what they were actually looking at. Greed sighed when she didn't move. "Are you okay now?" he sounded a little worried.
------
Zoe swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded, "Yes, yes.. I'm sorry. I was just thinking of.. my grandfather." she looked in Greed's eyes and tried to smile. It wasn't entirely a lie. "Just weird he looks like he's in his 30's." she put her hands on his cheeks, "I didn't mean to spoil the fun. Can we finish our dance before we go hunting for the car?" she was trying to keep it light and like she hadn't had a sledgehammer hit her heart a second ago. It was just too easy to fall into this pattern of being with him. When she was with him, everything felt natural.. but then tomorrow loomed its ugly head and everything unraveled.
-------
Greed could kind of admit, there was a lot of her grandfather that he could appreciate. Her great-grandfather too, though Poseidon was a hell of a lot more dangerous than some half-god hero. It was easier to manipulate him, Poseidon would take a little more work. And the more Poseidon distressed her, the more Greed would look for a way to swipe something that belonged to him, because Poseidon was poking something Greed had. "I think I'm older than him..." Greed pondered taking her silly moment seriously, but not as seriously as she took it. "You're the one sniveling and being all mopey. I was enjoying the dance." He didn't like his toy broken, feelings and all always made him want to duct tape her world back together.
-------
"Are you? Well when I'm dead in sixty years, you guys can go out for beers and figure out who's older." She huffed and smushed his face with her hands to get him to shut up, "I am not being mopey.. I'm just thinking about sad things and it makes me emotional. You should be used to it by now." her hands slid from his cheeks to around his neck. "I'm fine now, see?" and she didn't smile as much as show him her teeth.
-------
Greed rolled his eyes. "You are being insufferable you know that?" He shook her a little. "Stop talking about dead things..." Greed knew she'd not live as long. She'd eventually get wrinkly and old and she'd be the Peggy Carter to his Steve Rogers, but he didn't want to think about it. Women weren't as attractive when they lost their vibe, and he wasn't going to imagine Zoe without her soft skin and deep brown eyes. The imagery however hit him anyway. "Ugh, Zoe, thanks. You're killing the moment here." He was doing really well, she might have even kissed him but now she was just being rational and that wasn't fair.
-------
Zoe kept her arms around his neck and gave him a look, "You know you always shake me when I say something that you don't want to hear?" she smiled a little, "I thought the moment was dead. Oh whoops, not supposed to talk about dead things." She looked at the band as the leader announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, grab the one you love, it is the last dance of the evening..."
She looked back at Greed, "It's the last dance.." but her words carried so much more weight than just it being the last dance of the evening. But she stayed in his arms, hungry always for just one more moment.
-------
"Zoe! Zip it!" She was killing him here. When she didn't let him go it was a pump to his unending ego. She thirsted for him, he thirsted for more. It was a constant circle of ever-ending desire.
The song was a lot slower than the last, which meant she would have a harder time stepping on his feet.
"See you haven't stepped on my feet again." She needed to relax.
-------
She didn't say anything but not because he told her to shut up but because it was just so blah. She was greedy for him and she needed to stop. She had to quit cold turkey but he never would let her stop seeing him and dating was hard...
She nodded, "Well it's the last dance.. have to make it count."
-------
Quitting Greed was like becoming a smoker. Unless she had an anti-greed patch she was going to have a tough time of it. It was not going to go down easy.
"Oh my god would you look at that---" he sounded so entranced looking at the top of her head. "I can't believe it, you actually have a gray hair."
-------
She scoffed a short laugh, even when she felt like shit he could always manage to get her to smile whether she wanted to or not. She looked at his face, as if she was adoringly gazing at him but then she poked his cheek near his eye, "I can't believe you spotted that gray hair... with these wrinkles around your eyes."
-------
She was grinning again which was better than the upside-down smile. "What wrinkles?" He said patting at his cheeks under his eyes.
-------
She couldn't help but smile, he was a charming idiot. "I can't believe you let me go just to check your face.. Come on princess, I promise as soon as we finish our dance, we'll get you to a mirror post haste." her arms around his neck tightening just a little to bring him closer. They said that in order to stop smoking, you had to want to quit. And Zoe knew she didn't want to quit. She needed help.
